Bet John has more to say on that huge aspect.
Yeah, pretty lucky. If I hadn't been sick it might have gone on the Richard Russell Parkway the day before that could've been bad or even fatal, not just for me but for others in the group. If it was going to happen that was nearly the perfect place. The only BETTER place would've been within a 30 mile radius from the only motorcycle dealership in Georgia that was open on Sunday and fully stocked with Metzler tires and tubes.
When it blew I was just way too busy keeping it upright to pucker to the seat (by contrast when the Rocket side-stepped on me a few weeks ago on that mountain pass I was way more freaked). I posted a little note in the Save-a-newbie thread. Once I figured out I wasn't going down (after the 2nd or 3rd fishtail) I calmed down quite a bit. I started to notice a lot of things, like not hearing the rim grinding on the ground, the length of the remaining straightaway, Moe riding off into the sunset but being confident he'd turn around almost immediately, and the fact that the more of the front brake I applied, the farther out the ass swung side to side. I didn't touch the rear brake at all.
