ON 12/14/2011 of this last I almost died I had a full out heart attack..I am hear today because my youngest son save me called 911 and he did what they told him to..I will get back to that..that 911 people that show up were top shelf..the first hospital "FF THOMPSON" that I went to did a great job to get me stable and get me ready for the NEXT one "STRONG MEMORIAL" and this would be home for the next week ..I now have a stent in my heart ..and a life lesson at age 48 years.. yes I had a heart attack at 48... some of you may say ..well ed that really suck.. some may say you were a walking heart attack .."i was" but I like I said I got a hell of lesson out of this ..one big thing was food and what i was doing to my self ..after my heart attack I went to classes for 3 months not only for pt but about food and diet and exercise

I also learned how lucky I was to be hear I thought you have a heart attack go to the hospital get fix all is well....not true.. in fact most people don't make it..

told you I get back to it and one thing the 911 operator told my son to do was give me "chewable baby aspirin" lucky I had some in the house doc said beside my fast acting son who keep his head this was big in saving my life
and at 17 years of age he did a great job I am a blessed man.. I will post a pic of him later ..

but here is what i look like today.. I took 10" off my wast and a lot pounds

Ed, I'm glad you're still topside. A good friend of mine went through the same thing, at my house. Amazing how it will quickly turn your habits around. He no longer smokes or eats crap food.
Keep doing the right thing, you'll be glad you did.

Oh what a lucky man was he....Ed glad you are still with us and thank your son. I'm assuming that pic is of you after your PT, you look fit, as does the Rocket. We should all be taking baby aspirin daily. Keep up the good work.

Congratulations Ed on your second chance at this thing. You look great. I myself may be considered a walking heart attack, and to be honest with you it's something that is on my mind quite a bit. I'm about 375lbs, I used to smoke, and had a stressful job. I quit smoking 3 years ago,(other than the occasional cigar) and I have a relatively stress-free job that I love. I just can't seem to get this extra 150 lb monkey off my back. Good thing you're coming to the Midwest rally, you can share some secrets with me. In 12 years I will be 48, and my oldest son will be 14, hopefully he won't be called into duty the same way that yours was. If so, I sure hope he's just as calm, confident, and courageous as yours. Off now to buy some children's aspirin.

Good on ya. If I keel over it won't be from weight, smoking, or lack of exercise. I've dealt with that a little to much from the health care provider side. (If previous experience is any indicator I'll die in a mountain bike accident)

I've never understood how so many of my co-workers can be in such denial.

And let us hope that it never does, Chet.

BUT, as I'm sure you have guessed here, my above response was suggesting that many of those who have never thrown a leg over a motorcycle think that WE are "in denial" about the admittedly increased likelihood of serious injury while using our preferred mode of transportation.

(...though I wasn't denyin' that MORE Americans ought'a maybe start considerin' cuttin' down on their freakin' PORTION SIZES on their freakin' DINNER PLATES either...and a little more EXERCISE "might be" a good freakin' idea TOO!!!)

and for those looking to lose a few pounds ..and get heart healthy..it will take some work ..here in America we love to super size .."PORTION SIZES"..it's killing us..we also love to deep fry every thing if we can put it a deep fryer we will from pickles to snickers candy bars...
yup I had deep fried snicker candy bars and yes there damn good..

so I went the other way almost a vegetarian but I still eat meat.. mostly chicken & turkey.... very little beef and pork lots of fruit and yogurt ..and lots of salads ..and no more salt...lots of good old water..

and wow the pound started to come off ...

Thanks for sharing with us Ed and glad to hear things are well.

I hope you don't mind but I'd like to share my wife's story. She had a heart attack 2 years ago this May at 55 years of age. She had gone up to the hospital to visit her brother. She had been having some chest pains that morning so while she was there asked the nurse who was a friend for some advice. It was quiet in the emergency ward so the nurse encouraged her to admit herself for some tests. While the tests were underway, she had a full blown heart attack with the doctor in the room. Within 3 minutes the drugs were administered and she recovered. She ended up receiving 2 stints.

Like you Ed, you were thankful for the young man who saved your life; your son. With my wife, it was her younger brother in the hospital who gave her an excuse to go to the hospital who we feel saved her life.

Ed, glad to see your taking self of yourself and taking advantage of your second chance. I too had a heart attack on New Years day 2011, since then I finally stopped smoking, lost the weight I had put on and smile every morning that I wake up.

I am a fairly large guy and come from a family of large folk. Not particularly tall but stout. I was an athlete and lifted weights and ran into my 40s. In my 40s, I ruptured both the achilles tendon and plantar tendon on one of my feet and my running days were over. I started to gain weight as I didn't modify my eating habits. I got diabetes which runs in my family and the ONLY way I can loose weight is to make supper my smallest meal of the day. I also watch the glycemic index of the food I eat. Starches turn to fat and white sugars and white flour stuff is the worst. I used to eat potatoes and spagetti like it was going out of style and today limit that stuff. Supper usually is a small bit of meat with more veggies and/or a salad. Once you get used to making supper a small meal and not eating snacks after supper, pounds will melt off. You can still eat a normal breakfast (breakfast tacos are good) and a normal lunch. Try and stay out of restaurants no more than once a week.

Ed,

Congratulations to your son for keeping a cool head and doing what needed to be done. I've met Eddie and know what a fine young man he is, and it sounds like your other son has the same qualities. I am glad to hear that you are taking the steps to prevent this from happening again. 10 inches of the waist is fantastic and the pics show that. Keep up with the diet and exercise.

Best Regards,
Carl

Here's a testimonial endorsement for P90X. Really good series of workouts that you can taper to your own fitness level. Tony, the guy doing the talking, manages to pace things so that you start off just moving your head from side to side and, before you know it, you've gotten a really good workout in.

I know some folks need a gym, etc., but I've always been kind of a private workout kinda guy.
