Ok this may be just my perception, but it seem's that when I am out with my brother or other friends that ride Triumphs that no one notices the America. If we go to a club function or just out for a ride and stop someplace we can park right next to each other and someone will always say oh look a Triumph!Talking about their Scrambler or Bonnie. So is this just a phenomenon in central New York or does this happen to you also?

If my cruiser was parked next to a cafe I would hope the attention went to the cafe that looks accurate vs my cruiser.
That said any other scenario and my cruiser gets more play than Hugh Hefner.

I get noticed some for the Triumph emblem but.. Got a lot more of it with my previous Bonneville. Seems a lot of people had or knew someone that had an older Bonneville type Triumph.

It all depends on the type of crowd, Charles.

If it's a Harley/Cruiser crowd, then these BAs and Speedies get a lot more attention than if you're talkin' about a crowd of Sportbike, Cafe Racer or Adventure Touring folks.

And there's one more factor to consider here: To that second crowd, there is often the thought among them that besides the idea that Cruisers "ain't their thing",
the mere idea of a Triumph "Cruiser" is also somewhat of an "abomination" in their eyes.

(...just ask any of those folks in that "Brit Iron Rebels" crowd if ya ever run into any of 'em)

I dunno, seems to me when I'm out & about on Black Beauty I do tend to get a fair amount of attention from the cagers (mostly at stop lights), and the HD (dime a dozen) riders too. And yep...seems the HD crowd always has a story about a Triumph of one model or another.

They usually know if I'm around. Depends on the crowd. Rarely would I ever though, be in a "group" of Triumph Cruisers. The BMOA here in Houston has had exactly two Americas and only three Speedmasters, in the 8 years I have been involved in the club. And two Rocket III's, and an Adventurer.

I do know of another America, and another Speedmaster in town, that rarely, if ever, show up for anything.

And only one America ever shows to anything the last 3 years, other than my Speedmaster, and one of the Rockets. There are 3 or 4 regular Thuxtons, and a few new Bonnie's (I call mine a Bonneville Speedmaster). The rest of the club generally may not ride much ( anymore?), or belong because they own or collect vintage bikes.

Unless I get to the Georgia Rally, I rarely see another Triumph Cruiser, especially outside of the BMOA.

And YES, the cafe's always get more attention.

Mine always gets noticed, usually by some guy in a Beamer or Benz, who used to have a 650 Bonneville years ago and is now drooling over my bike. So I get out the detailer spray and move one with my life. The Cult of Harley tends to notice too. It's either the experienced rider, who also used to own a 650, or the weekend nusance, who's wondering why my bike is louder than his.

There's a guy who lives by me with a Speedy, but his never gets noticed. I think it's because his is solid black and not the old-school two-tone paint job. I definitly think the paint job has a lot to do with it.

I usually have people ask about it a lot. From people saying they used to own one or brother/ uncle used to own one. People saying they want to start riding and wondering what is the awesome beast I have. I actually like the convo, most of the time. But I bought it for me, and for me to ride. So if not a single soul says anything I'm still having a good day on my bike, and there's certain people with blue lights that I'd rather not be getting attention from.

Actually since they now carry Craftsman tools that would be ok.

Funny line there Sean, but actually I think there's been one or two posts around here in the past where somebody has said they were stopped by a cop while ridin' their BA or Speedy, and it turned out the only reason they were stopped was because the cop wanted to get a closer look of their bike and ask them about it.

True story, Dwight. I had one of my local LEOs block me in a parking space about a month ago because he wanted to check out my bike before I rode off.

Mine gets attention when I want it, and don't when I don't want it.

Twice I've had cops pull me over to checkout the Triumphs. First time,in the 90s, two cops in a black & white pulled a u-turn to pull me over. I was riding the T140V, they needed to settle an argument as to what it was.
Second, time a cop just wanted to see the America up close.
Usually, when I have gone to places with lots of "bikers", there is always a group around my "new" Triumphs. The comments go from complete conversations to "nice bike" to someone dry humping the bike.

you know it just seems people identify what Triumph calls the new classics with what a Triumph should look like that upright riding position. It may be as SEan said the paint job on the scramblers and bonnie say Triumph to people but man when you are parked in a group of Triumphs and people look at the America and go what's that one and then read the tank badge and go oh it's a Triumph to. You gotta wonder it seems to happen to a degree with any Thruxtons with us again maybe the two tone paint

It's rare for me to go out and NOT have someone compliment the bike, ask "is it new?", or tell me a story about the Trumpet they had waaay back when. One guy used to work in Triumph facotry and build the bikes, which I thought was interesting. I had one older lady reminisce to me about one of her first dates, back in the 60's, on a Triumph.

But the best was coming back down Mt. Rainier last September, there was some 20-something blonde (in jean shorts), got out in the middle of the road and took a pic of me and my bike coming towards her. She totally ignored my nephew riding the Harley behind me...

I'd say I get the same commentary with both bikes, 03 cardinal /silver America and 04 black/checkered Thruxton. I think most familiar with old Triumphs recognize the shape of the tank and headers. You always get the "great restoration", "can you still get parts", "what year is that old bike" etc. Of course you will always get the "I had", " my uncle had", "my neighbor had", etc. Triumph story. It happens less than it did, I think people know they are around now. But, there is still an admiring crowd around the Triumphs on bike night.

It seems to me everyone has had a Triumph in thier day. The usual comment is " I didnt know they still even made those anymore". I like the attention as it often starts a conversation. Something my shyness doesnt allow me to do. Im always the only one anywhere i go riding a triumph. Most of the Harley guys notice too. I ride it everyday to work and all weekend it does draw some attention.

I had one wheel kicker at a services, ask me "who" was making Triumphs these days or had I had the bike re registered with new plates! So I got on my and proceeded to tell him that surprisingly "Triumph" make Triumphs here in the good old UK and are selling more bikes today than they did in the 60's! Also had a bike cop stop me to ask where I got my pipes from cos he wanted a set, these were the standard after market pipes which I confessed to him that are technically illegal in the UK. He just said "Ta, loud pipes save lives" jumped on his Honda Pan and no doubt shot of to his nearest Triumph dealer to place an order!

I'd rather ride it than clean it!!!!

All I can say is. NO it's not a wall flower. I get comments on the speed master all the time. Some bizarre, some off the wall. But never unnoticed.

Well Paul, maybe you've noticed that those "sexy young ladies" usually have very little knowledge of the rich history of motorcycling...AND unfortuately, USUALLY have very little knowledge of much ELSE, for THAT matter!

And most of 'em USUALLY have heard of only one name in all of motorcycling and have been told NUMEROUS times that THAT name is the ONLY name that they should "worry their pretty little heads about"!

(...and I'll give ya three guesses as to what that name IS...okay, okay, here's ya a clue...it begins with an "H", it's hyphenated, AND it ends with a "n"...sorry, but that's ALL the clue I'm gonna give ya here!)

You're right of course Dwight.

But we know how good Triumph are.Even if it means fending off old guys at every stop.

Speaking of old guys,Maybe I need to look in the mirror more often to remember 18 was a LONG LONG time ago!
