OK, got a poser for ya. No, not a RUB on a brand new Hardley, I need help identifying something. I found this little piece during some clean-up I was doing on my bike after working on it. It was located in the little indentation on the top of the engine case where an oil feeder tube comes out of the case (the space right below the carbs). I have no idea where it came from or what it belongs to. Upon close inspection it looks like a bunch of tiny gold colored beads pressed into a cylindrical shape (like styrofoam, only metal) with a curved top (can't remember whether it would be concave or convex). Please check the pics and if you have any idea what it is, please post. It's no more than 3mm in diameter and about 3-4mm tall. The work I was doing was a valve adjustment but that doesn't look like it belongs to anything relating to the cams, shims, valves, etc. I also removed the right side engine cover to seal up a possible oil leak from the wiring connections coming out of it. The piece wasn't oily so it makes me think it has something to do with either electrical or fuel components. I did not take off my carbs or any associated bits but I did take off the tank. Internal piece of the petcock maybe? (haven't had any fuel flow issues). Like I said, I'm completely stumped as to what it could be or where it belongs. It can't possibly be road debris.

Only a guess but if you removed the peacock while the tank was on it could be the filter from the peacock assembly. I don't remember what it looks like but I'm sure someone will be able to confirm/deny my theory.

I didn't remove the petcock but I don't recall seeing it prior to putting the tank back on the bike. I saw it after everything was "buttoned up" (of course) and I was cleaning gunk out of crevices around the engine.

Agreed, FJ. And thanks Ian, your post was very insightful

Based on its shape and contruction I wouldn't be surprised if it was a filter. Maybe even out of the KrankVent I have on my crankcase breather tube since I did find the piece after I dumped the oil out of my little crankcase spit-bottle.

It's a filter but it's not stock.

We have similar looking items on pneumatic valves at my work. They are located on the exhaust port of the air lines. They act as a filter and I guess prevent air from rushing out in an uncontrolled manner. they need replaced after they block up with particles. your one looks brand shiny new and not dirty.
Hope this info helps

Maybe, maybe not. But the innards of this look very similar.

I think it is a gold pellet, Triumphs are so awsome that they turn sludge into precious metal.

That innards of that fuel filter do look similar but the only aftermarket filter I've added would be the KrankVent on the crankcase hose. I'll have to poke around some more now that I have a few ideas about where to look.
