I had an email today offering a 31% discount on Metzeler tires if you enter a special code at checkout and since I'll need a new front 110/90-18 soon I went through the cart and checkout process where entering the code is the last thing you do. Well, surprise, no price change for the code and the order was placed with no chance to confirm it at the final price. I immediately called their customer service and got George who said the code gives you 5% off the regular price which is then 31% off MSRP, and if you read the small print on the email it does say that, but much less prominently than the 31% savings banner. I asked George to cancel the order and he said it had already gone to shipping, but he would try; mind you this was perhaps four minutes after I entered the code and three of that was spent on hold awaiting George. He put me on hold another three minutes and then said it was cancelled. but checking my credit card account just now, it still shows a pending $127 charge and no cancel or credit, so I'll keep watching it. Beware of email offers, even from major suppliers, and read the fine print before you click.

Didn't know if it was OK to say, but it is MotorcycleSuperstore, and I had spent $300 with them on UTV tires awhile back with no problems except the tires arriving one or two at a time over a month's time - I didn't mind because most other vendors were out of stock on the ones I ordered.
I got an order confirmation email from them and replied to their CS by email with the particulars and to cancel and NOT SHIP THE ORDER; the confirmation also listed the discounts on the order as $0.00 - not even the 5%. I also emailed my credit card CS when I received notice of the charge from the credit card company and asked them not to process.

did you try your local independent shops. sometimes they will have specials as well. take care of them and they will take care of you.

I got an E$mail from J&P Cycles about a Metz tire sale today but I didn't really look at it.
I learned all I need to know about life by killing smart people and eating their brains.

Local bike shop nearly matched Bikebandit's price WITH my AMA discount. Close enough that I shopped locally.

I got another email from MSS saying the order was canceled and checked again today and did get a credit posted to my credit card.
My need isn't critical (.070 min tread depth at the center of the front tire and new rear) but I will check local shops before falling for a deceptive promotion again. All's well that ends well, I suppose; just cost me time and anxiety for an afternoon.

Phil, JP Cycles, a very reputable parts dealer also is offering the same exact promotion and the wording seems identical. Just read before you buy, I guess. I just bought an inspection sticker plate at a dandy price from an eBay seller with FREE shipping. I noticed AFTER I had made the purchase that the seller is from Canada and it takes 12-21 BUSINESS days to get the thing delivered if you take them up on their free shipping. Expedited shipping was a buck more and would have gotten here before I aged too much and included insurance. Ouch... read...
