I've had great luck with using a kuryakin "plug-n-play" sissy bar bracket. they make them for HD'S but all it takes is drilling 3 holes in your rear fender underneith your seat an than having someone wheld up a sissy bar in any shape you want. i went with twisted square stock and it rises about 17 inches above the rear seat.

Kuryakin says only to use 10 inch and under bars, but both me and my buddy, who has a 3ft tall sissy bar with the same bracket have loaded it down with gear and passengers wit no problem.
