If you have an issue with battery to engine ground there's a possibility of cooking the battery and/or burning up the regulator. My personal choice would be regulator to engine, battery negative to engine, same clean bolt. Match the regulator wire gauge, fuse the positive and go point to point as suggested, just use the engine as the ground point.
