just discovered my 04's air box top has big splits in it. Saw one from an 09 for sale and bikebandit lists the same part number for 04 and 09 air box assemblies. Anyone know if the 09 will fit my 04? Is $45 a good price? Need to act quick if so.

That's a fair price and if B. Bandit states same part #, good chance they are one and same.
