50 years since the release of their first hit single, the boys are back together (those that are alive) and on tour this year. I usually take a pass on big live shows these days, but I couldn't pass up the chance to see Brian and the surviving members on-stage for the first time in 30 years. Will be in attendance tomorrow night in St. Augustine and will report back, however, here is a look at their set list from their show in Tucson. Most if not all of my favorites are represented. Psyched that "Sail on Sailor" is on the list.
The Beach Boys kicked off their 50th anniversary tour Tuscon, AZ last night. Check out the band's 42-song set list below.
"Do It Again" "Catch A Wave" "Don't Back Down" "Surfin' Safari" "Surfer Girl" "The Little Girl I Once Knew" "Wendy" "Then He Kissed Me" (Phil Spector/The Crystals) "This Whole World" "Why Do Fools Fall in Love" (Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers) "When I Grow Up (To Be a Man)" "You're So Good to Me" "In Them Old Cottonfields Back Home" "Be True to Your School" "Disney Girls" "Please Let Me Wonder" "Don't Worry Baby" "Little Honda" "Little Deuce Coupe" "409" "Shut Down" "I Get Around"
"Sloop John B" "Wouldn't It Be Nice" "Forever" "Sail On Sailor" "Heroes and Villains" "In My Room" "All This Is That" "God Only Knows" "That's Why God Made the Radio" "California Dreaming" (The Mamas and the Papas) "California Girls" "Dance Dance Dance" "All Summer Long" "Help Me Rhonda" "Rock and Roll Music" (Chuck Berry) "Barbara Ann" "Surfin' U.S.A."
Encore: "Kokomo" "Good Vibrations" "Fun Fun Fun"

Should be a good show, they still sound great after all this time. Yeah, this young pup is a big fan.

Their rehearsal at the Grammy show was truly a highlight. They were in good voice and they have enough sidemen to really represent the music.

They did a segment on 'em on "CBS Sunday Morning" the other day, and yeah they still sounded pretty good for a bunch o' guys at right around 70 years old nowadays.

I watched it Sunday morning. Brian doesn't look nearly as happy to be there as the rest of them

Actually Dave, Brian has pretty much looked liked he's had a stroke somewhere along the line for many many years now...thanks in large part, I'll guess, to what Mike Love said in that "CBS Sunday Morning" segment about the Wilson brothers' use of drugs back in the '60s and '70s, which he mentioned was one of the major reasons for their initial breakup. (...and thus that expression upon Brian's face appears to be pretty much the norm for him nowadays, happy OR sad!)

Good Vibrations...oh wait, that was just gas. Damn getting old sucks... But seriously, I'd go see them if I could. But I'm goign to be busy for most of the summer. It sucks I don't get to Yes this time around either, especially at the great outdoors concert venue up at Snoqualmie Casino.

Yep, in a nutshell, Charlie!
Hey, this reminds me...now Dave here is much too young to remember Frank Fontaine and his "Crazy Guggenheim" character on the old "Jackie Gleason Show", but tell me Charlie, is it only me or do you also think Brian Wilson has been doin' that character for the last couple of decades now too???
(...I mean he definitely has the speech pattern down pretty well, don't ya think?!)

I saw (Fragile) YES somewhere in the middle 70's. Loudest concert I ever attended. My ears are still ringiiiiiiiiiing...........
Strangly Crazy Guggenhein was a roadie for the band. Go figure, what are the odds?

Hmmmmm...now I COULD be wrong here John, but I think Stangely Guggenheim and Crazy Guggenheim were two different guys...third cousins twice removed, if I recall correctly. Though I DO believe Stangely Guggenhein WAS a roadie for a band, but I think he traveled with The Who. (...and no, now that I've said "The Who", I DON'T wanna do any Abbott & Costello routines with ya here...sorry)

Live from Miami Beach. If you remember, Brian was friends with Charlie Manson. The BB's recorded one of his songs IIRC.

Actually Charlie, I think it was Dennis Wilson who had had a few encounters with that crazy little homicidal f****r.

Yes, Dennis picked a few of Manson's female "children" up on the road one day, and before long, the entire "family" had moved into his mansion. Dennis was a bit naive in life. Some would say stupid considering his wealth and fame, but he was just one of those lost characters who never really figured out how to grow-up. A very self-destructive personality, though likeable by most that met him (their words).
