Well I've taken that extra step and paid my deposit including taking delivery with the following fitted:

- Side Panniers
- Top Box and Slide
- Radiator Guard
- Headlight Protector
- Highest Screen
- TPMS (Tire pressure monitor)
- Heated Grips with Switch Mount Kit
- Arrow slip on Exhaust

In the future, I'll probably fit the Alloy Sump guard, Engine Protectors, small spot lights with protectors, GPS mount with the Garmen and whatever else takes my fancy.

I'm expecting it's not going to get into my garage for a couple of months as they aren't even released here in Aus until the last part of next month. I am hoping by the time I get home from the U.S. (Mid July), all accessories will be fitted and I'll be able to take delivery. Can't wait. I've got some fantastic times ahead I can assure you.

Now I'm retired, the Tiger is going to be a big part of my life as my intentions are for us to travel together in relative comfort and I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

Happy Happy Stacka

Thanks guys. Yep, some great times ahead that's for sure. I'll have to ride smart with this one, not only with the law but also my skin I'd suggest. That rush of blood that can come from nearly 90 f/lbs of torque from a quick flick of the wrist isn't going to be that easy to ignore. After the first time it scares the absolute cr*p out of me, I think I'll amend my riding habits if indeed I ever let the power monster loose
In me too much.

I'll definitely post pics when I get it and perhaps along the way.

I'm glad I'm still keeping my speedy too because I know if I thought this one was any better and sold it, from experience it wouldn't have been long before I realized not better just different.

So Stacka, in essence what you're sayin' here is that you'll be considering your new Explorer as sort of a "sidegrade" then, eh?!

(...you're a smart fella...one should never even imply anything about somethin' bein' an "upgrade" around here ya know...that usually will open up a WHOLE can o' worms!)

Congratulations on ordering the new bike.

One of the reasons I got my Tiger was that it is totally different from the America. Both are great bikes, but everything about them is different. To me the Tiger is a easier bike to ride, and feels more natural. I don't feel so much like I am on it and riding it, but one with it, and riding it. The Tiger Explorer has very similar ergonomics to the Tiger 1050, and I am sure you will really enjoy it.

Thanks every one of you for your sentiments. I believe you are genuinely happy for me which demonstrates a level of generosity which I've almost come to expect and is why I see this place as a like a second family.

Even Dwight's comment whilst a tad mischievous (naughty Dwight ) isn't anything other than good hearted banter between us band of brothers and sisters. Really glad Tom was able to share his experience too as this 'SideGrade' shouldn't be seen as anything else. Hey, let's face it, having a second bike is very much like legal 'Diogamy' or being allowed to have a second wife (can't remember the real term but I'm sure someone will pipe up

Yep, I love getting on here big time. Thanks again my friends.

Tiger won't be available in Blue until at least August grrr

Must be the most popular I guess. I can get black or graphite before then but I'm not interested in Black. Never have liked those shades and not about to now for the sake of getting the tiger a month or two earlier.

I asked the question, what does 'at least' August mean. Sounds like code for some time later. Poor me

And YES, this phone will very shortly be replaced with an iPad. It's driving me nuts.

I reckon my speedy has been applying electrickery cos she's jealous.

Really Stacka?! Ya don't like the Graphite color..err..coloUr???(that superfluous U was just for U..err..you, mate!)

I've just gone into the Triumphmotorcycle website and to the Explorer page and did the "paint" thing, and I gotta say while the blue IS nice, I think that Graphite is REALLY classy lookin'.

(...but hey, you're the one plunkin' down the bucks here I suppose, eh?!)

Well Dwight, I haven't seen that paint thingo before so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt with this one.

One thing though, I've tried real hard to get some quality pics of the new Tiger up close in anything other than blue and they are seriously hard to find.

I'll do some more research and look for some close up comparisons between the blue and the graphite. In the meantime feel free to give me a hand to convince me if ya want

Yeah, it looks like I'm replying to myself which I am I guess but all of 'yous' are asleep. "WAKE UP"

Anyway, I found a website where a bloke in England somewhere has just bought his Tiger and he's sharing his new journey with his mates.

We have to remember, all the information fed to us so far has been 'stage managed' Triumph info and MCN mags and the like, bike jouno's type findings. Good but nothing like the bloke on the street who has no real agenda other than perhaps never admitting his bike lacks in a certain department here or there.

I can tell you all, I'll be honest as the day is long which won't be a problem anyway cos this sucker is going to rock.

So here's the best graphite pic I could find

If any of you are really interested, you can also have a read of the comments

in this Forum

They aren't too bad really as they are in the more positive reactions type department.

Anyway, imho the Graphite definitely comes second in the looks department for me. The blue is something else imho. Get in the Aussie sun and whoa back. It's going to be like looking at an Angel's vision in Heaven. I am so certain of that it's ridiculous ha ha.

So it's a case of stacka is going to have to wait longer for his Tiger.

Definitely a poor me situation I'd say

I haven't seen the blue up close only the graphite. I say don't ever settle for anything. Personally I think it would have been cool if they would have had the option of green that they used on the 800 Tiger.

You know what Leithal, I reckon you just may be right. It's alright, you can thank me another time

The last new bike I ever bought was a Yamaha XT500 in 1979. Then I met my 'ex' and it was all downhill from there

Move ahead some 33 years and I'm ordering my next new bike which I intend keeping this time. The difference now though is it's probably going to be the last new bike I ever want or will need. So it's obviously pretty important I have no regrets with this one and especially considering I have a choice this time and not like we don't always do buying second hand.

So if it takes another six months I don't really care cos I couldn't have asked for a better colour than the blue. In fact it's probably very close to the colour I would have picked if Triumph Taylor made their orders.

Now how good would that be hey? And just think you could order the Green, if indeed you wouldn't mind your own Tiger in your Garage.

Hey Stacka, I don't think you're taking into account that the photo of that Graphite Explorer pictured above was taken during a cloudy and apparent drizzly day(the norm in Blighty! ), and so I don't think you're getting the true effect of how great a coloUr that is there, dude!!!

(...I mean, just THINK how nice that coloUr would probably look in the bright sunlight of Oz...or Arizona for THAT matter!)

I'm hearing ya Dwight, I really am. The problem is, all I see though is the Blue Tiger in all it's glory.

I know, why don't you buy a Graphite Tiger and take some pics in those beautiful blue skies in Arizona and I'll do the same with the Blue one. Then we could ask the members on here. What do you think?

I guess even if (when) my blue Tiger gets the nod from the majority of voters, it still wouldn't change your mind would it hey? Ya see where I'm going with this one buddy?

Anyway, Good try.

Hey, thanks for the vote of confidence with my choice of Blue. As always it's always personal taste with this one.

Anyway, the carrot of my taking the Black or Graphite WAS put in front of me cos whoever orders the bikes into Aus emailed my dealer back and said:

Quote:

It is going to be at least August before next blue is available, I can do a black June
Or Graphite in July

Well this did put me on the spot cos if I picked the Graphite, I could have virtually picked the bike up after I stepped off the plane from the U.S. A sort of post travel blues fixeruppera. Not this little blue (sorry) duck. He's gunna wait whatever time it takes to get me the colour I'm after.

It did test me though cos I got as many Graphite (Black wasn't a contender) pics from the Web as possible to see if I liked it more than the blue and whilst in all honesty it does look exceptional, the blue looks better.

Tomorrow I might scan an article from Australian Motor Cycle News which is quite a balanced appraisal of what the Explorer is like. It's also got some good pics in it too

Btw, when Paul Hogan did that add, he was told to say shrimp cos that's what the Americans call them but we actually call them Prawns. A little bit of useless info for ya.

I had a look at it Dwight and it does look well built. I'd suggest it's cos he's been fed so well at the wildlife reserve, wherever it was.

They are a magnificent animal (mammal I think) though. I can remember a few times feeding roos and they can get aggressive if they don't get their own way. There claws a really sharp too so keep feeding them until you get out ha ha.

If you do ever get a chance to ride over here though, they can be a menace on the road. The idea is not to be on the road at night and particularly at dusk. I can remember being in the Victorian high country and we hadn't got to our hotel before the sun was going down. It was a case of slow down and hope for the best.

The amount of wallabies, wombats, even pheasants of some sort would be criss crossing all over the road in front of our bikes. Amazing stuff but not if you hit something. The amount of road kill on the side of the road tells you that plenty of cars (generally 4wd locals) do hit em though.

Anyway, the Big Red Kangaroos are even bigger again to the Eastern Grays, but the grey in the video is something else that's for sure. Thanks for the link buddy.

I just read some good feedback from Facebook on some riders Triumph had recruited from the public to ride the new Tiger in some REAL Aussie conditions and what they are saying makes me even more excited about my upcoming Ride.

Quote:

Graeme Blore Peter and John, I can tell you right now. I did nearly 3000 k's in mostly Morocco on ALL sorts of roads and goat tracks, and everything in between. (Check out the Seeking Explorers site) I can tell you that the big fella is fantastic to ride, and handles the dirt SO well. I had not ridden dirt for 40 years, but by the end of the 12 days all 13 of us wanted more dirt, we had such a ball. I know when Steve gets back from the Oz trip he will endorse what I am saying! BTW, I have been riding all types of bikes for 45 years, so do have a bit of experience to back up what I am saying!

Saturday at 2:54pm ·

Triumph Motorcycles Australia:

I was one of the lucky ones that went on the Explorer recce' last week (This was around 15th April 2012) in outback S.A. and was amazed by how well the Explorer handled everything we threw at it. From tight technical tracks in the Flinders Ranges to fast outback blasting along the Oodnadatta track, the Explorer handled it all with ease. We subjected it to long hot dusty days, intent on making sure that the course that we have chosen for the upcoming press launch at the end of May, pitched the Explorer against the kind of terrain and conditions that Aussie riders are going to subject it to. We are happy to say that we can't wait to let a dozen or so Journalists find out for themselves what an awsome bike the Explorer is.....Triumph has done it again:)

Well, it looks like the nay sayers may be BMW followers but if the new Explorers were able to ride mid Aus and beyond 'Easily' like they say, then I guess there's nothing or no where I won't be able to do or go. You beauty. Very excited.

Titles this thread has endured...

- Deposit Put Down on a Tiger 1200 Explorer
- Deposit on a Tiger put Down
- What? No heated Seat? Lol
- Tiger 1200 purchase
- Re: Bike Dies, then starts after a few minutes
- What Do Others Think About The Graphite Colour???
- Another Stacka title change
- Another Stacka Title Change - Take Two
- Whatever Happened to My Tiger Talk?
- I dunno!!
- Big Buff Eastern Grey Roo
- Quick Return to Tiger Explorer Thread

I always have to go back to the beginning to find out what thread I'm actually reading. But hey, it's YOUR thread, Stacka and you can do anything you want with it, just stop blaming this title change thing on your phone, 'cause I think you're doing on purpose, lol!

Meanwhile, the more I hear about the Tiger 1200 Explorer the more I become interested. It sure sounds like you're about to go to a whole new level of motorcycling. I am a bit jealous but mostly happy for you on this one. Thanks for keeping us in the loop (even though it IS a bit hard to follow)!

Yep, that's quite a good writeup there, Stacka.

Sure sounds like the perfect motorcycle to go explorin' on down there alright, or anywhere for THAT matter!

(...though I'll bet the Graphite one might be juuuuuust a little faster!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
