Want to see an interesting facet of chain wear? Take a piece of butcher paper and a sharpie and trace out how much side deflection (bend) you get on a stretched out new chain and a worn out one. Quite a difference, due to inner barrel wear. If a worn chain has spent it's duty life misaligned, it will bend one way slightly farther, than the other way as well.
