I might be inclined to agree with Ian also. I just changed out my OEM chain after 23k on it. Only lubed it maybe 2 or 3 times, never had any issues with it. Really the main reason for changing it now was front sprocket was worn, rear was slightly worn and the chain was a little streched. I'm sure if I had really wanted to I could have got another 3 or 4k out of it easily.
