The problem is that the information is presented in a fantastic hyperbole that causes youths (particularly those rebellious as I was) to thumb their noses at the warnings. If it were approached as clinical and honest you would get a much better response. I know that after watching a documentary on stds and the treatment there of, in my high school anatomy, and physiology class condom sales sky rocketed at the local stop and rob.

Or maybe as late as, say, 1968 Mac, and when certain constantly dour Sergent of the LAPD(with badge No.714) with just a hint of hyperbole in his conversation with a make-believe Timothy Leary here? ...

Actually this particular Dragnet episode always conjures up somethin' that Chad brought up here.

I remember watching this episode at a friend's house one night when we were 16 years old. And I remember my friend's dad sayin' to me afterward that my friend knows better than to take drugs because he said he'd "kick the crap out of his son if he ever caught him doin' 'em."

Now, the FUNNY part about this is that my friend was pretty much a regular "pot head", evidently unbeknownst to his "tough guy" dad.

Whereas, I remember MY father and I havin' a rational discussion about the issue of drug use...which, as I'm sure you remember at this time was REALLY takin' the country's youth by storm. AND, I've always felt, just as Chad has made mention here, the reason I NEVER got into that whole drug scene back then in high school when almost every one of my friends DID might've been because of that rational discussion my Pop and I had.

(..oh, and besides my POP teachin' me how NOT to bow to peer pressure in situations such as that, I ALSO always felt my hard earned bucks from bein' a boxboy at the local supermarket at that time would be MUCH better spend on parts for my motorcycles...particularly a couple of Hondas and one BSA Lightning...yep, I had the coolest freakin' motorcycle at Gardena High School by my senior year!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
