The connector is the weak link and the mod means to bypass it by jumping straight from the black w/ red to the battery. Usually this means splicing a wire onto the b&r so you don't disrupt the parallel path to the ignition; since I haven't done this I don't know where the feed splits. One might be able to withdraw the b&r from the multipin and jump to the battery just by using a better spade terminal.
