 Disconnecting Sidestand Switch

Hi all, Some may already know I want to remove the sidestand switch just to narrow down and pinpoint why my bike is stopping and starting intermittently. Is this simply tracking the wire from the switch up to where it's connected and removing it from this connection. Again I appreciate your help on this one.

hey Stacka check your gmail account. wiring diagram on the way.
My reading seems to suggest that the switch closes when the stand is down connecting to earth, and shorting the circuit. If this is the case you should be able to simply disconnect one wire from the stand switch to prove your point.

You have to bridge wires if you want to disconnect sidestand switch

Connect pins 1 and 3 to simulate the stand in the up position.

Thanks all. So it's not simply disconnecting as was intimated in other posts and I have to bridge pins one and three. This means my getting hold of the wiring diagram which I have and determining which are pins 1 & 3 by the colour coding of the wiring in the diagram. Is that right?

You are correct. I tried it in the garage a while ago just in case I ever needed to do it on the road. And for reference for others, here you go... Looks like black red and black.

But only because it was a double of the next posting.

It's easier than that, 1 & 3 are the two outside pins in the connector. I carry a short piece of wire already prepped for the job in my tool roll.

Ok guys this is great. I'm feeling confident I can do this myself however can I confirm the obvious by saying I need to follow the sidestand's wiring up to it's connector and wiring the two outside pins together? I would rather remove the switch altogether. Cheers Stacka

I wouldn't.
When mine got all corroded in 2009 (sussed out by the mechanic at the Spokane dealership) the mechanic told me which wire (I think it actually runs over to the right side of the engine) to just ground to defeat the switch. I've long since forgotten which wire so this post is even more useless than most.

Now Now Mr Friar John, you aren't allowed to confuse me like that. I was going really good up to your post which when you read it, provides liitle if next to nothing of valuable info. I think I'll just hope someone agrees with my last. Btw, my switch has been siliconed up for some time and I don't live near the coast so i half expect to look ok. Mind you, I would rather find the switch all decrepit.

Well... If the ground (earth) wire (black) is always at ground then it makes sense to ground the black/red wire.

That seems like a long way around to a solution when you can jump the plug right there on the downtube next to the tank.

I would bypass in the easiest location, get it running consistently then make the permanent mods once you have a solution. Imagine adding another issue to an already existing issue! Makes for more time looking for the issue...or both!

I agree with that final solution. Seems to me that Stacka is still in the diagnostic stage and a simpler solution for diagnostics would suffice until its shown to cure the problem.

I couldn't agree more with the above.

I've had a look at the electrical diagram and it shows two wires attach to the sidestand switch. A black wire and a black and red wire.
If as mentioned I need to ground the black/red wire, wouldn't it be easier to simply attach the black wire (earth or ground wire) to the black/red wire???

Any chance there may be a fault in the ICU (ignition control unit) just a guess but thats a common component with the tacho, sidestand, r/r, tps, coils........

That's an excellent suggestion Matt considering my Tacho stopped working recently and of course I've had to replace two R/R's
