Very nice, I like the colors. Does it really feel as heavy as it looks?

No, but it feels as wide as it looks. To let you know how wide it is, people have been telling me it looks like a normal sized motorcycle for me. At least I don't make it look like a moped.
It's actually quite nimble for 700 lbs. (which is still lighter than your average Harley Bagger). These shots were taken coming down the east side of MacDonald Pass outside Helena, and I had no problem running up the pass (a fair bit curvy but not ultratwisty http://g.co/maps/bqemn) at 90-95. Dragged my left heel; had my feet back a bit and hanging off the footboards.

Yes, 700 lbs. is much like my old Dyna, which was a lot narrower but still felt heavy at rest. That's the main reason I got rid of it, I loved the power but disliked the weight. Wide but not heavy might be something to look into.

I swapped out the Summer screen for a Windvest, added a touring seat with backrest, Throttlemeister cruise control and adjusted the highway pegs to suit. It's a serious mileage eater now. It hummed along so well at warp 9 I was thinking an audiobook would be nice... Now I just have to work out if I'm going to use my Droid for that or resurrect my old iPod Nano, but that's a different thread.

I don't own a Rocket, yet. But I've ridden three or four. The standard Rocket is pretty light coming off the stand and in turns for a 700+ lb bike due to the wider tire vs the Tourer with a narrower tire,it felt heavier to me. Comparing it to Kaw a sakis big tourer, I think it's a 2000cc, I just about dropped a marble lifting that sucker off the stand. Keep in mind I ain't no heavy weight

I'm going to have to get a second one before I have to give it a name beyond "The Rocket," although I was tempted to call it "Rocky." I didn't start calling Bollox "Bollox" until I got Reboot. If they were different years I could've gotten by with 2002 TBA and 200* TBA. But where's the fun in that?
But with the backrest and highway pegs and footboards and cruisecontrol and cup holder, it's BETTER than a LazyBoy recliner or a couch.

CREEPR A sixth letter would cost an extra $35. I'll stick with FRIAR. EDIT: Actually I want to put "AMF" somewhere on the back, maybe on the license plate frame. I can't spell it out here because it would violate the AUP. But suffice to say the first word is "Adios."

Well I'm certainly glad you did kinda sorta spell out that "AMF" thing there, John! (...'cause for the life o' me, at first I just couldn't figure out why you'd want to name your Rocket after that bowling ball company that almost did in Harley-Davidson back in the day!)

I was thinking maybe I could find an antique AMF company emblem or logo. But I'll probably just do the license frame or three little vinyl letters on the rear edge of the fender under the tail light.

John, I'm curious how you hold down a full time job, moderate a website and have three motorcycles. Where do you find the time?
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

I really don't find the time, clearly. You didn't even mention the side business and the girlfriend (she took the photo above). Now you know why this site hasn't had the major upgrade I've been wanting to do for over a year (and am now just considering paying someone to do it for me).
I have to do the full time job. After that it's about what I want to do, namely my bikes, my girlfriend and this site, not necessarily in that order. But some things fall by the wayside. Bollox hasn't been fixed. My house remodel isn't done. And my side business is going down the crapper. Don't even get me started on the '65 stang I inherited from my grandmother, sitting in my garage collecting dust, boxes and bike parts.
The answer is, I do what I want to do, when I want to do it. Life is all about priorities.

Well I've scraped both footboards, both at low speeds. The left side was a roundabout near my house that I tried to take a little too fast but leaned into it enough to make it, and the other was just going around a corner in my neighborhood. Still learning the operational limits. It's really hard to go slow on this thing. I feel a ticket, or at least a lengthy discussion with the local gendarmes, is in my future.

Okay, that is a realistic explanation. I thought maybe you had a twin or you mastered time travel.

I wish I could remember which motorcycle magazine writer told a story about going on a new model release ride for Triumph, he was riding a new model Rocket and he wanted to impress other the other journalists when they were pulling out after making a roadside stop. His intention was to do an impressive burnout, so he wound the motor up and dumped the clutch only to have the bike stand up in a monster wheelie. The writer almost crapped his pants and the other journalists were cheering him on because they thought he did it intentionally. So John , have you tried to do a burn out yet? Haha

I may be a fuel injection convert. Loaded a FREE map with a FREE cable using my (well not so free) laptop in about 5 minutes. Took me longer to find the ODBII plug on the bike. Oh. My. God. Mind you, I haven't changed anything on the engine, not TORs, not the catalytic delete, no K&N, nothing. I believe the major change is that it deactivates the secondaries so that you have full power in every gear. That and smoothing things out a little. They guy who gave me the cable and made the map (and coordinated the group buy on the Hagon shocks) says just that map on a stock bike nets 12-14 hp on his dyno. Oh yeah, and I finally washed it for the first time.

Hey, what's going on with the title? It keeps changing to one about a reborn bike or something. Weird Anyway, I really enjoyed having a look of you and your Rocket (whoops - sorry), your reborn bike , and I thought to myself, I can see where the "friar John" name comes from. and maybe even why the need for such a big bike. Geez Stacka, you're about as subtle as a sledge hammer hey? Anyway, that bike that shall be named something along the lines of it being reborn or something is very nice indeed. I'd love to have one but I've just convinced 'the trouble and strife' about my need to keep my Speedy, somehow I don't think her love for me extends to having a third bike in my stable. Maybe I'll have to get an 'Appendage' extension
