Instead, Monsanto is spreading the death across generations. Creating food allergies in unforeseen ways. Loading up both us and our reservoirs with poison. Creating a demand for more and more chemicals. Recently soy crops have begun to be attacked by the very insects the Bt toxins (Genetically engineered into the soy crops) where designed to kill. Much as antibiotics have created a whole host of resistance bacteria, so will Monsanto's liberal use both of the Bt toxins and Round up do for insects and weeds. (Yes, many weeds are now resistant to Round up).
Europe's citizenry was who banned GMO products. The government fully approved GMO products for sale. When the citizenry stopped buying those products the Corporate giants stopped formulating their products for sale in Europe with GMOs. Those same companies did not reformulate their products for our markets. Citizens have a voice: Those who speak and make their position known either by voice of the written word or (more concise as it hits the coffers hard) the voice of boycott.
Been wondering about this kind of stuff too Moe, especially since our oldest son was diagnosed with Noonans Syndrome and Autism several years back. This despite a perfect pregnancy by my wife, no smoking, drinking, all the neo-natal stuff just fine, normal delivery, etc..., and no family history on either side. What is particularly alarming is the DRAMATIC increase in the rates of diagnosis, which was something like 1:150 kids about 2 years ago and is now 1:88 kids. I realize the detection methods are getting better, but one would think that would rule out other illnesses incorrectly classified as autism a few years back, if it wasn't as widespread as it seems to be. Even more interesting, is that I can find NO reference to statistics in the EU for autism rates, almost no information whatsoever. I found one link mentioning "hundreds of families in the UK", but that doesn't work out to much of a percentage rate at all compared to 1 kid in 88 here in this country. Vaccines seem to be ruled out now, but what about GM foods? How about the explosion of food-related allergies. When growing up there was never any concern about things such as peanuts being near food, now every single restaurant has warnings if they are even in the building and in the schools such as where my wife works in the cafeteria, they are fanatic about letting any peanut products into the kitchen area.
