...Bhopal?, that was a manufacturing accident, a rupture gas holding tank...

More likely an act of sabotage as "An independent investigation by the engineering consulting firm Arthur D. Little determined that the water could only have been deliberately introduced into the tank, since safety systems were in place and operational that would have prevented water from entering the tank by accident." *

Water? "a large volume of water had apparently been introduced into the methyl isocyanate tank and caused a chemical reaction that forced the chemical release valve to open and allowed the gas to leak." *

Union Carbide provided interim relief, but it took the Indian Supreme Court almost 5 years until February of 1989 to reach a settlement with Union Carbide. I drew the analogy between Union Carbide and Monsanto in order to emphasize the difference in long term effects of Chemical Corporations bad planning. Union Carbide's derelict planning had immediate effects: 3800 folks perished, all at the same time. What Monsanto is doing is not going to kill thousands up front or at the same time. Instead, Monsanto is spreading the death across generations. Creating food allergies in unforeseen ways. Loading up both us and our reservoirs with poison. Creating a demand for more and more chemicals. Recently soy crops have begun to be attacked by the very insects the Bt toxins (Genetically engineered into the soy crops) where designed to kill. Much as antibiotics have created a whole host of resistance bacteria, so will Monsanto's liberal use both of the Bt toxins and Round up do for insects and weeds. (Yes, many weeds are now resistant to Round up).

The benefits of these brave new world feats are amazing. Feed the world! Engineer vitamins and such into the limited food supplies of third world countries. Bravo. Unfortunately, the gains realized wane over time. Not only do the benefits wane, but the environmental damages wax. Thus the insidious nature of Monsanto's work.

Dr. Mercola's take on Monsanto "Today, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) could rightfully be accused of being a “subsidiary" of the Monsanto Company. When you realize just how many Monsanto executives and employees who have migrated into positions of power within the FDA and other government agencies, a truly disturbing picture emerges of the foxes guarding the henhouse." His voice is not alone. Much like former Congressman who turn into either lobbyist or corporate execs for the purpose of exerting influence contrary to our pursuit of happiness, so too do former chemical execs go to work for the FDA.

...One must consider that a lot of this banning of GM food has to do with internal economic interest of the banning country...

Europe's citizenry was who banned GMO products. The government fully approved GMO products for sale. When the citizenry stopped buying those products the Corporate giants stopped formulating their products for sale in Europe with GMOs. Those same companies did not reformulate their products for our markets. Citizens have a voice: Those who speak and make their position known either by voice of the written word or (more concise as it hits the coffers hard) the voice of boycott.

Many of the studies against GM seems to be proven lacking in control.

If you only knew about the lack of double bind studies by Monsanto! Many claims are made that the research refuting the claimed goodness of GMOs is lacking. However, repudiations are being made regarding the research that allowed market introduction! Again, the insidious actions of Monsanto are apparent: "Your research is bad! Therefore ours is good!" lol. Who are they kidding?

No worries. Much like our ability to smoke fags, choosing what we eat is still our choice...at least for now.
