All you guys that installed the ProCom CDI, are you happy with it? Would you buy it again? The sticky thread above seems to indicate a lot of mixed feelings. And as I may have to replace mine in the near future, I just thought I'd ask.

Overall, no. At least not yet. If I can get it dialed in how I want then maybe my opinion will change. I am still considering sending my stock unit to Pieman.

You know all I want is a part that performs like the OEM part, from what I have been reading it seems to miss the mark, but there don't seem to be a lot of options.

I've only had mine installed for 2 days. So far so good. With the exception of the Procom CDI my bike is still completely stock so I don't know if that makes any differance. Stock mufflers and AI still installed.

Dunno, however I am under the impression that TPUSA flashes them in SoCal. Maybe Mike or Carlos can enlighten us.

They send them to the UK.

So, how does it work? If mine is defective, can it be reprogrammed? Is it exchanged for another reconditioned unit? Are the ProCom units so finicky that this is the preferred fix?

Mine just got back to TPUSA from Triumph TwinPower (pieman is the owner of TTP). So its not an exchange thing.
You should talk to pieman about whether or not he can ressurect a bad CDI.
When mine gets back I'm relocating it under my seat. The issue with our CDIs is the effect that water and heat have on it over time. Bad location. The same Gill type unit is used on Bonnie and they don't suffer CDI issues (they are located under the seat).

Is there a set of male and female plugs anyone has found to make an extension without cutting the harness?

Yes and no. In a previous thread there's a female plug that would work perfectly but the male end is a PCB only plug (meaning designed to be mounted to a circuit board).

I sometimes wonder if the problem is ProCom or the changes people make to the engine and exhaust? As I said before my engine and exhaust are stock. It rode nice after I installed the ProCom unit when my OEM CDI failed, I've only driven her a couple of times since installing the ProCom unit so time will tell.

I have thought that too, maybe it's fine for a mostly stock ride but for a built up motor that's ridden like a guided missile, it may not be the best option... as I've said before, I'm not giving up on mine, still gonna try and get it really dialed in before I make a final judgement

No, not really.
I went through to Gill and spoke to someone there (I've lost his name when I changed PC's)
You can get the plugs relatively easily (from memory they seem to be an industry standard), but the sockets are only available with PCB conections

Rode the bike all week back and forth to work and she runs pretty darn good. Did have to get use to starting her with the ProCom unit, but other than that I'm happy with the nearly $400.00 difference in price between the OEM and the ProCom unit.

I have nothing but praise for my Procom CDI. No problems whatever. I have the 2nd one they sold, and was the first one to install it. There weren't any preset maps yet, so I talked with Wesley at Procom and with His help, wrote my own Map. I would definitely buy another one but I don't think I could get as good a price as I did the first time. You see, I called & pestered them for months to make the CDI in the first place. Then everybody here agreed to FLOOD the Procom website with emails asking for it. Procom sold it to me for Cost: $100!
