Sorry to hear about your dogs too John, at least passing in their sleep is a great way to go. Too bad in most cases it is a very hard decision to do the right thing by them. As many of you know,I have a very hard time dealing with the loss of a dog since to me they are family. I get choked up when I hear of anyone losing a dog.I like dogs better than most people and in many cases they don't get the love and kindness they deserve.

I personally don't choose to carry a firearm but here's a tidbit I always share. After running over 5000 EMS calls, including quite a few gunshot wounds, I never encountered nor heard of anyone else encountering, a victim who was shot by a homeowner defending themselves.
Lots of other scenarios, though.
possibly like how many responded to homeowners shot (or worse) by encountering intruders, when the homeowners were the only party not armed?

The 9 was a small double action only with tritium sights.
I'd get rid of that thing. Tritium is a radioactive isotope of helium with a half life of 12 years. Actually, if you held it in your hands, you're a goner.
Yes Tritium is radioactive, however its only a beta emitter, and the radiaton can be stopped by a thin sheet of plastic. It wont even penatrate the outer layers of dead skin. You get more radiation form being out in the sun, medical/dental x- rays or a cross country flight. This being said I wouldn't go chewing on those sights, but since it is an isotope of "hydrogen" it would bond with the water in your body and be flushed out in a matter of weeks.

Don't know if it true, but years ago I read an article about radio activity that said if you worked in Grand Central Station in NYC for a year you would receive the equivalent of a medical x-ray from the granite construction.

Taurus can't sell all it's "Judges" so why would S&W want to make a copy that's going to be more expensive? I've fired a "Judge" and it's no big deal. Of course I'd just finished firing a 460 and 44 mag and the 44 mag was no big deal either after that 460. Now that was a cannon!

PS..heard some good opinions on your Taurus from the guys at work...I got a Taurus PT 738 last year and it kind of fell apart on me....my favorit is my 1911 45acp and my S&W revolver...I feel my revolver is more "positive" as I can leave a chamber open when on trips ..... thus the hammer is on an empty chamber ( I know, modern fire arms but it makes me feel better)..... just my $0.02

Love my worked S&W ( cut springs and everything inside polished, very light trigger) revolver 357mag and would love a 1911 45.

it's nice to have them wondering "Does he or doesn't he?"
Or even "does SHE or doesn't SHE." My supervisor is a female and she has a CCW licnese and carries a 9mm acp with laser sights under the seat in her car. We work for the OK Department of Human Services and weapons are not allowed in state buildings, so she can't carry it in to the office with her. More and more women are carrying.
I made a mistake. I talked to my supervisor and she said she has a Smith and Wesson .38 revolver with a laser sight. I think they used to call it the "Lady Smith" She wanted a 9mm but she said her husband made her get the revolver.
I think I'm going with this one. Just wear it over my shoulder and won't have to get a permit. Think what this would do to a pigeon. Dirty Harry would approve of the new "most powerful handgun in the world"

Don't take this the wrong way, but why not? I grew up in a household full of firearms (dad was lifer military) and I have several guns myself. I just don't get people against guns. Here in The US a LOT of us take our second amendment right to arm bears very seriously. See, I can even joke about it. Not dissing your values or beliefs, but that is a sacred right in my opinion. Many people gave their all for this right, and this is the most important right we crazed American rednecks relish. As the saying goes, "The second amendmant is there to preserve the first."

As I recall, didn't the Brits try to take them once? Lexington & Concord come to mind.
There was a time, not that terribly long ago, when many English gentlemen went about armed. I'm guessing that a lot of Englishmen would have liked to have had recourse to arms several months ago.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I'v owned a taurus Pt99-9mm for some 20 odd years. Fired thousands of rounds through and never had a jam or malfunction. I trust it as much as any auto loader. Folks like to hop on the 1911 bandwagon but i'v personally seen plenty of stove pipes and problems with various different makes. I do own one however. That being said I almost never carry one even though I have a ccw permit. If I have to go out at night to one of the farms ,I sometimes carry one as we at times encounter bears and wild dogs. Mostly they go on their merry way, most times. But to be honest I Can't really say I feel at lot safer from criminals when carring a pistol.

Paul I bought a Walther PPS last weekend and took it to an indoor range today to get a better feel for it. I do like how it shoots. They are somewhere in the $500 range over here. PS While I was in the range a guy in the next lane fired off one of those S&W 50 cal. Dang!!! Muzzle blast about knocked me over. He got his friend to fire it once but the friend said "no thanks" to the offer of more shots. Something about keeping his hand and arm in usable condition.

Well, I REALLY hate to point this out here Mac(as I really didn't wish to get involved in this tread), BUT at least according to this docudrama you've linked, the moron, err I mean the guy who, yes, was just doing his duty by manning that polling place, pulled a freakin' gun on a duly deputized(though admittedly apparently corrupt) LEO, and sooooooo, what the hell DID you expect would happen to that moron..err guy, NOT to mention that by pulling that gun on that LEO, it apparently was the cause of the gun battle which would insue.
In OTHER words, according to our Constiutution, there ARE almost ALWAYS other avenues afforded to American citizens OTHER than VIOLENCE which can bring about a change for the better in our society, and thus your posting of this video as some apparent "The Best Argument for America's Second Amendment" is specious at best.
AND just for the record, and just so there is no misunderstanding as to why I've offered up my little rebuttal to your posting here, I DO own firearms, BUT the reason I own them is NOT because I'm afraid of any "Potentially Tyrannical Government", but because I feel they MIGHT come in handy if I ever have to move to a location with a reputation as a "High Crime Area" and where morons might abound who have somehow and some way never learned how to play "The Game of Life" fairly and squarely and who might someday have the compulsion to enter my home unannounced and with less than honorable intent...period.
(...we now return you to our originally scheduled programming: "What brand of handgun should I purchase?")

Dwight, I don't own a fire arm for protection. I own a O&U for shooting birds. For home protection my family has always preferred baseball bats or nine irons, it's more old school and fun. Still the Battle of Athens is part of Tennessee history, I ran across it and thought it was interesting. Also, the vets tried repeatedly over years to go through proper channels and were ignored by DOJ. Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers, sorry.

I own a Taurus and have nothing but great things to say about it. It's a little bigger than the 740, but my .44 revolver is for finishing off any game that may still be alive after I hit it with my 7mm rifle. It's not a versatile as a semi for home defense. http://www.taurususa.com/product-details...crumbseries=rb2
