How do I make a strip of LED lights that plug into an electrical outlet

I have been searching
led strip lights 12v online ALL DAY and found some really cool ideas like throwies, and LED flashlights, and other
LED Tube battery operated LED's.
But what I want to make is a strip of LED lights that I can arrange in a long narrow balsa-wood box,(about 2"X2"X36") with the actual diodes poking through holes in the top of the box. And then, at the end of the box, I want an electrical cord so that I can power this without batteries.
