I don't want to add a bar or any other lights other then the factory one, so what do you reccomend for a bulb that will give me the biggest bang for my buck, also does changing the lense help with this? I plan on doing more riding at night this year so i figure i should sort this out, the OEM stuff it not much better then candle light :-)

PIAA bulbs are fantastic! As for the lens, I swapped mine out for the Adjure headlight. Not sure if it works any better than stock... it was an aesthetics thing.

+1 on the PIAA bulb. Definitely better light output than the OEM bulb.

Keith, which one would you reccomend, they have all kinds of different ones, bright white, white blue etc etc. Are they a simple plug and play? I guess my manual will tell me what wattage etc i can go to on that.

Hey Mike... I went with the PIAA Intense White bulb which is rated at 4100K (kelvin). The higher the # the more blue the light, and the lower the # the more yellow the light. You can look at a kelvin scale here. The high/low bulb is called an H4 and is a standard automotive bulb so yeah, it's plug and play. For more money, PIAA has a bulb specifically made for motorcycles in that it is supposed to stand up to vibration. I could see using that one for off road riding but not for our cruisers. I've been running with PIAA for two seasons without a hiccup. These bulbs make a difference. They use the same 60/55 watts but are rated as 135/125 watts. Kinda makes the old bulb seem like a candle in comparison.

Are the PIAA bulbs available from auto stores or do you get them online somewhere?

Is there a problem with increased heat or current draw that could lead to electrical problems? Thanks for any insight.

Nope, Warren... the PIAAs are the same wattage as stock and I've had no problems with heat. I even run H4 PIAAs in my driving lights which are much smaller than the bucket (3.5") and there's been no problems with heat in those either.

partsource was out of them, 115.00 a pair, crappy tire also did not have the H4 in stock, called 3 of them! two of the all wheel drive places here that sell them did not have the model i wanted (intense white) and they wanted 105.00 a pair, got tired and ordered one from eddy for 40.00 bucks and i am done with it! sad state of affairs when a guy can't spend a buck in his own city when he wants too. I will try the one from Eddy (who i like to support anyways) and if i can find others later here i will buy a spare. Otherwise will just carry the one i have around as a back up.

Wow... there you live in a good size city and can't find them, and here I am in a small town and found them at the first place I went. Go figure... I can see why you went with Eddy which as you pointed out, has them for a great price!

Ok, as always, here comes Erle with the "Cheaper" alternative! Key word here, ALTERNATIVE. (AND cheaper) PIAA is the "Cats Ass" right? Well, SYLVANIA has been the Cats Ass since BEFORE I was knee high to a grasshopper. I think they were ALWAYS source for the "Big Three" since electric headlights became all the rage. ANYWAY, I bought the Sylvania SilverStar Ultra , with 4100K, and 60/55W, 9003/HB2/H4 from Autozone for $26.99. Same price, and in stock, at Pepboys and Advanced Auto Parts. I'm SURE I'm comparing "Apples to Oranges" again, but THAT'S JUST FINE! Here in Florida, Apples and Oranges are BOTH good, but ORANGES are cheaper! Educate me on the difference (other than price), please.
And you may see me tonight

The SilverStar bulbs are a good, less-expensive alternative.
