The MAIN feature that drew me to the Triumph WAS the America tank! (pre-EFI) Different strokes for different folks.

hahaaha. I do like the pre carb tanks too. this bike just looks so damn good with the other tank. Besides, i can't leave anything alone!
I think the cleanness and lines of the swap is was drew me to it. kind of like a easy way out to make a modern bobber.

Sorry about the so so pictures: Step 1 Cut off the tabs on the frame that hold the tank to 3/4" to 7/8" Step 2 Put the rubber mounts back on Step 3 Cut the "wings" off the rear tank mount and drill a hole where the tank mounts. The hole is large enough for the original rubber, insert and bolt. You can see the rubber sticking up thur the hole Step 4 Use the original tank bolt and washer to bolt the tank down, it is the real shinny thing in the picture

I didn't cut the tabs down at all. Just cored out the rubber so they fit closer to the frame. Then I made a bracket for the tank where it bolts to the frame because I wanted the tank to fit as far forward as I could make it.

I did try today and it is not straight forward had to remove ignitor both relays and rear engin brackets bolts to lay it down on the frame. I did not cut those front tabs yet to fit tank properly but question is where to move ignitor and relays or do I need use the hammer and "adjust" shape of bottom of the tank?

Wow all of mine are mounted on the side of the top tube...see if you can zip tie them to the side of the top tube...when I got my tank it didn't have the insulation in it..so I run it that way...

Yeah, I didn't have a problem with any of that stuff. Mine was an 08 bonnie tank so maybe its a bit bigger? Dunno. And yeah, I had no insulation on mine either. If you rip that crap out will it fit alright?

Looked at the bottom of my tank and back end is wider than yours..the only place it "comes in" is for the fuel petcock...it doesn't have the second tube on the petcock side..sorry I don't have a camera otherwise I would shoot some pictures from the underneath
My tank was off a carb. bonnie

My tank is a mid-year 08. The guy I bought it from said they started making the tanks larger for the efi at that time, even though they were still running them with carbs. Mine fits over everything with no mods needing to be made to the relays etc.

Yep, that's true Ian. In anticipation of the EFI models which require a fuel pump, Triumph in 2008 slightly changed the shape of the Bonneville gas tanks by making the tunnel wider. And, because of that and in order to keep a similar amount of fuel capacity, they made these later model Bonnie gas tanks a bit more "bulbous" and higher up from approximately the gas cap on back and slightly less of the classic "teardrop" look of the previous years.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

yeah you def have the efi tank on yours. its bigger, tunnel is deeper and wider.... you got the rarest of the rare. the efi tank thats carb. you can usually tell cause the badges are super thin on efi tanks. theres a little more work on the carb thanks. I'm not scared!!
