Oh yeah, I agree Mike! Guys of "a certain age" usually fondly remember that TV show and that Michael Parks-sung song, alright. And, I'll bet they remember the opening of the show, too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnPIOH8bCfkAnd yeah Bob, that Nelson Riddle "Route 66" TV show theme is another which holds strong memories for me! And coincidentally of course, both of these series were similar in their basic premise.

You forgot the after "coincidentally".
Mad magazine did a spoof on TCB that started out something like: Take half the car, half the cast, and get a show that's half as good.

Yeah, I guess that was kinda true, Bill. I mean, seein' as how the run of "TCB" was ALSO less than half as long as "Route 66"'s was TOO!
I guess when ya can have TWO guys in a Corvette who can at least maybe hold your interest a little while conversing with each other whenever they're NOT conversing with some of the people they meet in each episode of an Anthology series, I suppose that MIGHT be a little more interesting than some "James Dean-like Man of few words" type of actor/character who EVEN when he's NOT quietly riding his Sportster from place to place, pretty much didn't say much at all to those SAME kind of people out there in America once he ran into 'em!!!
(...'cause I guess THAT'S how a "cool" guy on motorcycle is SUPPOSED to act, huh?!)

I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

That's what I sing at the start of every road trip - as soon as we hit the highway.
Right about the same time the wife puts on her headphones and heads to the back of the RV...
It's all good though. The dog hops into the co-pilot seat.

Im not sure if it qualifies for a real drivers song but when ever it comes on my car stereo i crank it up and open the windows. Born To Raise Hell.....Motorhead. Motorhead blasting out of a car window. Not what you'd expect from a Jag driver.

Anything by Deadbolt - The Scariest Band Alive!... or Manic Hispanic... they are a punk rock super-group of southern California, who cover punk rock tunes only with a Mexican American twist. and of course as has already been mentioned, anything by Motorhead.

Then there's "Ten green bottles,Hanging on the wall, if one green bottle ,should accidently fall, there'd be nine green bottles" etc etc. You get the idea.

In the mid-70s I traveled as a factory rep for a heavy equipment manufacturer, Kansas, N Oklahoma, E. Colorado and parts of Nebraska. I always found myself driving on endless rural two lane black tops. To pass the time I would pop in a cassette of Iron Butterfly or Grand Funk Railroad and synchronize the passing telephone poles or fence post with the beat. Thank God for radar detectors.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
