They are very German, that's for sure. One thing I've learned about mine is how automotive the engineering is: the oil pan drops just like a car, the dry clutch and totally separate transmission, drive shaft and universal joints. And I think it will be low monetary input, once I get it moved from the bent frame to its new straight home. Of course, it's 40 years old so that might not reflect newer BMW pricing.
