Any of you retirees ever think about getting one of these for your bike(s)? http://www.outlawrv.com/gallery.php

The thought has crossed my mind about trading in the house in a few years, especially after battling the winds of Kansas last June on the way to the SW rally.

That would be freaking sweet. I would do it if the situation was right. I'd want to be retired, no wife or one that is game for that lifestyle, kids all settled with their lives, etc. If the stars aligned, I would do it for sure. That particular unit you're pointing to is awesome.

Nope, it's a matter of pride to me that my bikes have never seen a trailer and get ridden to any location I take them.

Words to live by, Ian (and I really mean that). But I still love the garage.

My bike has never been on a trailer or on a truck. That said, Many of the places I'd like to ride are one to three days hard riding away. I wouldn't mind taking a home away from home to a place with lots of good places to ride and then spend my days riding twisties or or scenic byways rather than spend most of my time just getting there. Tow a small car behind that outlaw so my wife can do her thing while I go riding. Maybe along with another couple.

Park in Flagstaff, ride through Sedona and over the mountains to Prescott, steal some cigars from Dwight and ride back. Sounds like a good day!

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

The Outlaw is to small for me. I'll take the Tuscany please.

I notice the website does not list the price of these little runarounds.

I'd rather be on a bike than in a box in heavy winds. The mpg would be better anyways.

And to all yous that have never had your bike in a trailer or truck: I bet you have never broke down/flatted out either eh? I hear yous though. The problem with hauling the bike is that you have to haul the hauler to your next destination. One is chained to the cage. Reminds me of an Otis Redding tune...

Great idea in theory but I live in the Great White North and would love to be able to head south in the middle of winter to attend a rally or two in the south, or even just to have the bike with me on vacation.

I have ridden from the east coast of the USA to the west coast and from north east us to the far south us. When I broke down I pushed to where I could fix it and with points and carb I was always able to get it running again. Even when I broke a ring I managed to ride it home on one jug from south NJ and lost 5th gear in my 72 bonnie I opened it up along the road and pulled the broken tooth out that was jamming the shift mechanisum and ride it home with 4 gears.

EDIT: Just remembered another time that the nut came off the main shaft opposite end of the clutch basket because a tab washer had failed allowing the shaft to slide back and forth making the clutch pushrod ineffective. Again opened the trans put the nut back on and periodically snugged it on the way home but made it there.

Just think, you could park a couple miles out of town, roll out the bike and toss dust and mud on it, then ride into Sturgis or Daytona pretending you rode all the way from home. That's why I don't go to the big "motorcycle rallies anymore.

Better yet ride the bike all the way to Sturgis then say you did it. Twice for me from here in north east Pa so far. Want to do it again and ride to Wyoming again too, both were great trips.Yellowstone is definately something to see. I haven't seen it after the fire. I know some historic structures burned.

I worked in the motor home industry for a short time, repairing and setting up. My parents have a Winebago. For my two cents, motor homes are money pits. They are built of the lightest materials (cheap)to save weight, the parts are even more outrageouse than bike and boat parts, (think $600 5 gal water heaters). While there are plenty of "deals" out there on used motor homes, be prepared to annually spend thousands of dollars on them to keep them nice and in running condition. If one has a huge money bucket, with reserves, ok. But if the plan is to sell all you got and live the rest of your life in it on the road, ya better have a short plan.

I looked on a dealer web sight and the Outlaw was about $119K but you could get an internet deal for $99K. It's probably like owning a boat you have to sink a lot of money in it and it may not be used all that much. But I still can dream.

You're probably right Moe. That big thing would probably be pushed around by those winds we went through just like some of the 18 wheelers. I've heard of semis being blown over.

Just looked on Craigslist. Dirt cheap used ones for only a little over 75K

You can buy a lot of beer with 75 grand.

I bet it would be fun though. But where to keep it when you are not using it?

The people I know who spend much time in them don't really drive them that much. They drive them to where they want to be, park them and live in them while using the car they towed with them to get around. I have a mailbox customer I have never actually met who moves about every 30-60 days, often just a few hundred miles. He and his wife just park it and explore the local area, then move on when they've seen and done everything they want. So far they've been been from Michigan to Florida in the last 16 months. I just forward their mail when they call. I must admit, he has said he's glad he's pretty handy. I think it sounds more fun than it really is.

As for never trailering my bike, strike that, sort of. My bike rode on a tow truck from Winslow to Flagstaff in October of 2010 when I stripped all the teeth off the rear sprocket. There being no bike shops in Winslow I had it taken to the Honda shop in Flagstaff where they took great care of the Blue Streak.

My plan is to build a tiny house on a trailer, complete with garage. Not kidding either. Those things can be very cool, you can build them exactly how you want, park them where you want and have them built out of good material.

i have a retired friend that lives in one of those. has a yamaha in the garage when traveling and toes a pickup with it. when it is parked the garage becomes his living room, the ramp sets up like a porch with an awning over and a screen panel seperates the outside from the in. he sold his home and has been living this way for 5yrs. he loves it!! admititly it takes a certian kind of person to live like that but he is having a ball. winters here(all around the state) and summers?? wherever the road takes him. been out west and is now talking about alaska?? or doing the around lk mich ride?? park the home in wisconson and take off for a wk or 2 then load er up and head off to another destination where the riding looks like it might be interesting. got him one of those memberships to campgrounds all over U.S. and when he is tired of one area he just moves on to another one...taking his home and belongings with him. he is in his late 60's and like i said, sold his home and his buisness and is out seeing the U.S.A. in his Chevrolet hahahahahaha how many remember that sonbg by Mrs. shore????

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

Actually something like this would be more in line with my proposed retirement budget.

The towable toyhauler is more logical I think. Although 40-50 feet is more my style to make living more comfortable. Definitely will have one when I retire. A mobile command station of sorts. Lock up the house or have a sitter stay in it and go for a year or two at a time. Capacity of 4 bikes. Very nice. I bought the truck to do it. Now I just need to retire so I can go and not come back for a while. Only 12 more years until 30 in the service. Looking forward to it.

But, what if you were a full timer who moves around alot. You could take your tool with you and enjoy it at different locals. Did that for 3 years after retirement before the missus wanted another house. Dissapointing, as I loved being on the move. Hard for people to nail you down, but life rolls.

Looking at a Sprinter van in the future small enough for easy manouvering big enough to live in with an enclosed trailer for carrying the bike and other gear. At present we have a single motorcycle trailer that can be pulled with ease behind a Mazda 3 that we use for weekend trips or a couple weeks. As we ride two up it's easier to haul the Speedmaster then do loops from a central point.

I would like something like that as a basecamp for extended trips, say a few weeks in February in the south, somewhere warm.
