What's the best chain lube?

I'm looking for something that works well, easy to apply, and doesn't throw black gunk all over my bike.

thanx,
Kurt

Wax, not lube any of them work well from any shop that sells bikes with chains. Maxima makes a good wax safe for 0 and X ring chains. It tends not to throw stuff all over my bike.

PJ-1 blue label. You can get it at your local Harley shop, which will give you a good excuse to drive over and park right in front

Cheers,
Brad

My fave is Maxima, but PJ-1 is equally good. I'm stuck on the Maxima primarilly because I love the smell. Don't ask why - I just do.

I used some stuff called "Chain Wax" (Catchy, huh?) that didn't sling stuff alll over and appears to works pretty well. The downside is that it dries white and stays on the outside of the chain. Looks like crap and is tough to get off once it's on.

Scottoiler oil, which requires a scottoiler.

Ships to USA and in my opinion is excellent. Used to use chain wax and while it has excellent "sticky" qualities, it also collects grit, grinding it into your chain.

I have a scottoiler but never fitted it as I am happy with this

When I first got my bike I was using a clear spray wax but can't remember what brand it was??? Then I switched to Motul chain wax and wasn't impressed with it one little bit. It forms big black really sticky blobs that requires kerosene to remove it.
I've got the scottoiler now and am very happy with it. Once you get it adjusted right it's great.

I have to agree with the Scott Oiler, been using them for the past 5 years and put over 6 k on a T 100 and never even had to adjust the chain or clean it. Very little throw off when adjusted properly.

Scottoiler gets my vote, virtually maintenance free.

Can someone post some pics of the Scottoiler installed on an America and tips for getting one put on right? Also, best (cheapest) place to order one in the US. Thanks, Steve

Aerostitch has probably the best price on the Scottoiler. Larryshep has some pix of his installed on a Speedie, it may be in his gallery he mounts his directly to the chain guard. Greg(englishyankee) and I mounted ours at the frontmost attachment of the chain guard behind the right side rear peg holder. It's still easily accesible for adjustments and can also be filled with out removing the footpeg mount. We all routed our feed tube underneath the swing arm with the provided guides, it looks very neat works wonderfully.
It takes a while to get it dialed in and remember that it takes time for the adjustments to manifest so 50 or 60 mile intervals between adjustments worked best for me. Once you get it synced, remember your setting and don't worry about it. Check the reservoir every couple of thousand miles and you've got a minimum fling low maintenance final drive.

I posted a couple photo's of my Scottoiler installation. I find it best, for me, to mount the bottle to the chain guard, run the oil tube to the rear sprocket under the swing arm. Run the vacuum line to the front nipple on the right side intake manifold and you can see the breather tube in the photo. Scott also make a dual oil head that goes on each side of the sprocket, it works well and can be mounted on top of the swing arm with two small sheet metat screws..all a matter of choice.

Thanks Chy and larryshep for the quick replies and help. I'll soon be a Scottoiler person.

Bel-ray super clean. Goes on white, so you can see where you sprayed. Doesn't sling off and make a mess.
