Well, I was thinkin' that maybe all these folks who might've gotten "burned out" with this website were like those higher wattage bulbs that shine brighter but for a shorter time. (...unlike us "dimmer bulbs" who are still around here after all these years!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Just like cars, I think a lot of bikes get sold. The site is very branded (not a bad term) leaving a lot of folks with little to no interest if they have moved on to no bike or another brand.
We also have to remember a lot of Speedy and TBA riders are a little older. There comes a time when the body just can't do it anymore.

I ain't that old (40 something, feeling like 25) and I have never been attracted by a nitro powered Hayabusa. I love my America. I would love a Thruxton too, I'm sure.... just no crotch rocket in my garage anymore. No point, unless you have access to a nice track. Now, that would be fun...

A very large number on this forum are between 50-70yrs old.
I had other bikes but bought the Triumph in 05 at 54. At 60 this may very logically be my last decade riding.

Hey man no talk like that bro. I know an old fella who rides, and when he gets off his bike he grabs his cane outta the custom cane scabbard he has on his bike.

Yeah, don't talk that way. I turn 70 in July and plan on riding until I can either no longer do it physically and/or mentally. Of course the wife says I am already mentally deficient. Frank

My grandfather rode until he was 72. I hope to top that by a long way. (It's hard to imagine not riding, but maybe I'll mature some day.)

Ian, not trying to be a smartass, but did he die on his bike? Or are you just saying he rode his whole life?

Well, I'm almost 60 and see no end to my riding career. It's got a lot to do with the way one thinks, guys. Think in terms of now... NOW we can ride. And as it turns out, there never is anything but now. I feel the same way about my music.

I reckon there'd be heaps of reasons but as has been said already, many of the threads have been asked a few times now. I also remember a member (no names no pack drill) who was on here every second or third post and his bike had everything. Come the gfc though he sold off as much of the extra stuff he had and simply moved on. No explanation I read but I think we know why. Hey, I've only come back myself after a bout of I'll health involving my having to retire from a job i loved, and thinking my speedy was not going to be with me much longer either. I simply had nothing good to say so I didn't say it. Well now I'm back and in a much happier place with much good stuff to share and wanting to talk to all those blokes out there whom I enjoy talking with. Of course I too nearly went off the radar for good but I certainly would have said my goodbyes. In fact only a month or so back I was also seriously contemplating exchanging my speedy for a different ride which again kept me silent for a piece. Luckily for me a mate said to me "but you love that bike", which was the proverbial sledge hammer to the head I needed cos it made me figure a way to have both thank goodness (btw, it wasn't financial but storage probs which I didn't know how to get round) Anyway, I can't owe that buddy of mine enough cos I just know I would have never forgiven myself. Never I guess the list of reasons members leave us are many and various as my simple examples explain. I just hope we can keep as many of the old salts (and the newbies who'll be old buggers if they aren't already) cos so many of em have helped me out over the years i cant even start to thank them. Of course this is simply one other reason why I've always loved this place. I spose what I've really been meaning to get across is, when the time does come to move on, please give me and all the others here the simple opportunity to say all the best. That's All really cos to me this place in space is more than just about bikes Stacka

People sell their bikes and move on. I'll probably do what my uncle did when he reached the late 60s and had knee problems, buy a trike.
Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

Speaking of a Thunderbird, fins or no fins, I'm still pondering the purchase of one of those, at the ripe old age of 64 and retiring soon, I figure that it just might be my last scooter I'll buy. If I can convince AmyLee to ride behind me now and then, the TBird could be the way to go for longer distance riding. I just wouldn't be able to play "Go Your Own Way".
