If you decide that's your path (and performance wise I'm not certain it's the way to go) how about letting me in on what's inside? I'm thinking they're stuffed with stainless wool for sound absorption and that's one of the two components I'm considering incorporating in some new SS baffles.

Keith, that link to the LA Choppers baffle tubes shows a 1 3/4" tube that would fit perfectly into the neck of the SS pipes so you'd only have to weld on a support ring where the new bit would meet the existing baffle. Pack the front with stainless wool and the removable baffle with fibreglass and I believe (not proven) you could actually tune the volume to suit.
Aesthetically it's killing me but whoo boy the gain in performance is so nice. Now I just have to weigh out the cost of building out custom baffles vs the "look"
