I just got the Maverick low rider seat and love it....except....my long legs now feel a bit crowded on the stock pegs/foot controls. Has anyone heard of a kit to move the foot contols further forward/perhaps onto a highway bar/peg set-up for an 07 America? Oh! and I havta ditch my 12 inch apes too...back to the stock bars for sure!

Longer bolts and shim blocks for the mount? That would be one way. Spin the hose from the brake res. 180 degrees and fab a longer shift linkage rod or a 6mm coupling nut and short threaded rod to suit.

Thanks Ryk. Honestly I haven't even got to looking into doing this quite yet, but the shim blocks / longer bolts and fab on the shift rod sound like the most feasible option. I did a search of old forum posts about this and learned that wildmike had done a similar mod. So I sent him a PM to pick his brain on the "how too" also.

I'm thinking of perhaps fabricating a new brake & shifter brackets (& linkages) to accomodate clearing in front of the pipes....and welding on new mounting points on the front side of the frame tubes might be the cleanest way to go about it.

These ARE the forward controls.

One member managed to hack up the front control mounting bar, roll it over 180 degrees and mount the controls a couple inches forward. Anyone remember who that was?

That sounds doable. Might look a lot better than shimming the bracket out. I think that might go way forward , though.

I did that, but didn't like the way it looked with the rear brake reservoir in front of the headers, so I gave the control bar to Martin Boichat ( also on here) - don't know if he has any photos of it though.

Thanks John, that thread was just the ticket! Also got a PM back from wildmike with this thread web address. I'm thinkin I'll show the pics to my buds round the shop and see if we can cobble this together (I'm sure that wont be a problem). It'd be nice to have a spare front controls bar to do this mod on (a save the current one on the bike if'n I wanna go back to a stock controls mount set-up too)

I bought a spare forward control mounting bar and made up a set after I saw Wildmike's setup. He sent me a set of photos and a blow by blow description of his fab work. I haven't mounted it yet and debate whether I will, we'll see.
Wildmike is a great guy!

Yep Paul, wildmike is a pretty cool dude I'd have to agree considering the info I gleaned from the thread that I read on this mod. I guess he's not currently riding the Speedy he did the forward controls mod on tho as in his last PM told me it was in his garage & had become a real "rat" bike.

Anyhoo, my seach is on for a salvage forward control mounting bar.....that is unless you might wanna sell the one you cobbled together???

Actually, one of my employees has the setup right now and is mocking up his Bonneville America for the mod since he's 6'2" with a maverick seat. He is however my welder so he could make another very easily. There are a number of them on Ebay right now under Speedmaster and Bonneville America within British motorcycle parts and accessories in Ebay motors.

You can get a longer shift rod from here:http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=496679&an=0&page=1#Post496679

He made a shorter one for me

Well, I got a spare front controls (with the controls) bar coming from Pinwall cycle & it should be in sometime next week. Thanks Paul for the guidance to the Ebay listing. I had been browsing Ebay & not finding one listed until I was able to dial in my search re: Speedmaster/Bonneville.
Since the spare comes with the controls (including the clutch rod) I'll be lengthining the clutch rod via my own mod. I'm thinking a bit of SS tube, cut to the required lenght to reach the new control set-up (with a bit extra length to add strength to the span) & welded round the joint on either side to the spare clutch rod I'll have will work fine.
