I think if you took a poll of big bike people asking them to list touring vs. cruisers. Then ask them to rate them best to last.

I think the ones on top would be with

Fairings
Hard bags
Tail bags
Floor Boards
Hard lowers
Big pillion
Big stereo
Heated grips
Heated seats
Aux electrics

You can tour on anything. I tour on my TBA. The air craft carriers are just better for it.

You can probably still do it but I don't see anybody ordering a new car in Arizona telling them to take the radio and AC out of the car.

Big baggers sell, people want them. If the creature comforts didn't sell they surely would not put them on the bikes.

Too much tupperware for my taste.
Too much weight (even BMWs top touring bike weighs over 760 lbs! Big bike people? Well I'm 6ft 1in and 240lbs so do I qualify as a big bike person

Maybe it's those years as a kid riding Honda XR and CR dirt bikes and appreciating a simple, basic agile motorcycle.

Since my wife rides her own bike I dont need a road couch for 2. We have 2 small saddle bags on each bike and if we go for a few days we belt on a 3rd larger bag to the pillion. For Electronics we have smart phones each bike has a 12v charger outlet wired into a saddle bag and the helmets are bluetooth linked (ScalaRider) for navigation, calls, music, bike-to-bike intercom etc. Each bike has a windshield and Powerlet outlet for heated clothing if needed.

Really if you need more comfort just take the car.

Of course that's just my preference in bikes younger riders on sport bikes would scoff at both touring and cruisers...
