I guess it could also be a European thing (other than the odd exception)... we don't feel we need 900-plus lbs behemoths or the trend never "caught on".

(...but then again, Europe doesn't really have the vast open flat plains of the American Midwest either, and where one can cruise endlessly in a dead straight line for hours upon hours in states such as Kansas, Nebraska or west Texas without having to turn a steering wheel or a handlebar...NOT to mention the idea that we Yanks have always gotten a MUCH better deal in regard to our gasoline prices than YOU poor guys over there in Europe ever did!)
