Bill, If you put the voltmeter across the actual battery terminals (not some extra alternate power source leads but the + & - terminals themselves) and get 12.7 volts (key off) then .03 volts (key on), I would say the battery has failed. It probably has an intermittant internal contact. It appears that the battery is fully charged as indicated by the charger and the 12.7 volts but when you draw any kind of amperage, the internal circuit opens probably due to heat/arcing.

If this is indeed happening, make sure the battery doesn't pop in your face and douse you with acid. Internal arcing inside a battery could ignite the hydrogen gas inherent in them.

That's how I took the reading(at the battery). Its my feeling that its the battery too. I am going to go get a new one before I get into any more in depth diagnostics. I have a headlight relay in my toolbox and may go ahead and change that too after I figure out if its the battery.
Relays are either good or bad right, there is no grey area?
