I generally agree, but I would modify the word "religion" to "personal religious interpretations and manipulations".
The last President who tried to follow his Christian conscience was hated by the Washington establishment and stymied at every opportunity.
Religion is part of our heritage, and the Constitution ( including that pesky first ammendment) is based on Christian principles. One of these principals, btw, is that humans cannot govern in God's stead. So trying to establish a theocracy is not only anti-American, it's also anti-Christian.
