Here's another little tidbit of information. According to the Coal industry, we have a little over 100 years left before we deplete our coal reserves, which ain't a long time in the span of humanity. That's from the World Coal Association, not Greenpeace or some tree-hugger website:
http://www.worldcoal.org/resources/frequently-asked-questions/According to their statistics, we are currently consuming 200 million tons more coal each year worldwide than we are producing. That means we need to be developing alternate solutions NOW, not waiting until we have 10 years of coal left. Based on current consumption records from the Natural Gas industry and global gas production, I'm coming up with about 22 years of till depletion of cheap readily available natural gas (250 Billion cubic feet DAILY of consumption globally versus 2,000 Trillion cubic feet of reserves based on info from NaturalGas.org, the Natual Gas industry website. Seems to me that a lot of long-term jobs could be created in this country alone by being proactive. Who knows what the answer will be long-term, probably some variant of nuclear, maybe fusion, but it doesn't seem very wise to just sit around arguing about it, does it?
