so....my car is in the shop - but it's suppoed to be 59 with 0% chance of precip tomorrow so, plan to ride fiona (02 TBA) - despite that we got a bunch of snow today, inexplicably. went out tonight to take her for a ride after the roads cleared, and she *almost* started, but then died. tried again, got close, but then started clicking. let her rest a while, tried again - same same - almost - then clicking. I'm *assuming* it's battery. I have had the bike for 7 months, have never charged it - don't know the history - but have 10,500 miles. put the batter on the 2A charger....here's hoping. I have read that it could be starter related as well....hoping the batter charge does the trick. anyone have any thoughts? I ride all the time, so, it's not like it's been sitting. But it's also not like there's an alternator..... I'd love a good explanation of how the battery is supposed to work, as far as never really getting recharged....I'm tech-challenged when it comes to bikes - but learning fast.
...you're gonna feel a little pressure....

You've had a 10 year old bike for 7 months, that battery is an unknown. I would replace it, it sounds like the culprit.
Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

I definitely intend to replace it this weekend - or sooner if I can - just hoping I can get her running for tomorrow.

It should fire up after a charge. Might not hold the charge but it should fire up. When you do get 'er running maybe grab a multimeter and see what the voltage is across the battery terminals (while running)... you should see 14 volts or more. If so, the charging system is working well and points to a bad battery.
Live to love, love to live.

What did you charge it with? Charging an AGM with an unregulated charger can fry it even if it is otherwise good.
Did you load-test it? In my experience, when AGM's go, they are gone.

I charged it with a 2A charger overnight. started right up this morning - but I will be replacing the battery on principle this weekend.

Well then, the correct answer is you "don't know". Dude, I'm seriously trying to help you, however with answers like that you may not need my help.
If you used a wet-cell "12v" charger most likely it is putting out as much as 15+ volts during part of the charge. Do that for long enough and it will kill even a good AGM.

I'm not trying to be flip - if you have a direct question, ask it. How do I know I charged at 12V ? because that's what the charger said. I'm happy to have the help - but if you're trying to prove something, please just prove it. I was pretty clear that I didn't know what I was doing. I answered your question with the only answer I have, dude.
