Paul,
Moe's route is the quickest by far. "long day" is very optimistic by my arse standards though. I respectfully consider Moe a seasoned long distance rider and If he says its doable I have no reason to doubt. I, on the other hand, can get pretty burned out by a hard 250 mile day. I make a few trips to Kingsport/Johnson City every year by cage and have yet to make that distance in under 6-1/2 hours. For me, scooter time adds considerable time. I'm thinkin you could do it in a looong day, but, I know I sure enjoy a nights rest half way. I Only say this because I think there are far more like me than there are like Moe.

Yeah but he probably doesn't ride 80-90 mph average speed like you do.

Always wanted to ride to Nashville...

If you have the time, go for Nashville! Two day ride to Dahlonega. First day is a slab hell day of 564 miles. Puts you in the Nashville where you can do what it is that intrigues you there. Then the next day when you are hating alcohol, you roll a simple 250 miles to Dahlonega. Better yet, make this a three day ride. Go off slab, stopping 200 miles from Nashville. That gives you an early morning ride into Nashville where you can check in then check out the city. Planning now will get you tickets to what ever venue you want. Staying outside Nashville on your way down the first night keeps the hotel $$ low and allows you to ride into the city after rush hour morning traffic (or rush hour evening traffic).

This is the route I would contemplate riding (or at least a route along this order) to Lexington. Straight lines fall by the way side in favor of twisty sweepy choices as suggested by http://www.motorcycleroads.us/index.html.

Whatever route you decide on, take your time and enjoy the ride!

Anyone thinking about camping this year?

The wife might make it this year, and her definition of camping is a hotel room. Now if there is a campground with some small cottages for rent I might be able to talk her into one of those.

I'm up for camping Mike. I am not pulling in until late Thursday. I will be in Raleigh, NC for work on Thursday. Also have to leave Sunday by Noon. Heading to Nashville for work for a week.

If anyone is camping, I will set up camp and bring wood, chairs, cover, beer, grub and such.

Apperantly Yota is a fan of them!

Anyway I'm probably going to camp and I've spoken with a couple of others who are planning to camp as well. Great little campground about two miles from Chy's place, cheap, probably no need to make reservations, on the water, no johnny law, (within reason of course)

Maybe they will have another flea market going on this year. Still got that sweet hat I found last year.

Yota's knees have had too many years of abuse. Too late to start using protection now!

Will Raj let us stay at his hotel this year. I thought he threw us all out after our 2010 stay I think it had something to do with that young lady puking all over his room . Has anyone been able to make a res. at the Days' Inn. I plan on getting in around 8 or 9 on Thursday night I would like to make res. now to avoid the rush.

i have confirmed 3 4xtent sites with electricity ($20 a night camping x4 bikers) with jaki and darryl. I will have to cancel 1 or 2 spots if we have less than 5 or 9 respectively. let me know if you are going to camp. it will cost $5 a night if there are 4 on the site and I will provide some amenities. there will be a shower and toilet. I will have plenty of wood, booze and grub but will only pay for 1 site for the full 3 days.

i will also have a 3 person tent and a 1 person tent. I will be sleeping outdoors or in my trailer. These tents will be available from 17MAY to sunday morning if you don't want to lug a tent. I am on travel on 17 May from Raleigh NC so I may not arrive until late (have to get home and hook up the trailer and get to the campsite) so if you are in on thursday this might not be a great option for you.

Is the "young, puking girl" included, or do I have to bring my own? (If so, who wants to go in on the cost?)

The puking girl was in 08. Got kicked out of the raj in 2010. I will never give another cent to any Day's Inn. Actually, I think I have been banned for life for having too much fun.

Sparks free zone needed. Charlie, you really need to go back and hit on Raj's wife. That is the only real way to restore your honor with Days Inn.

...erle (was that a confirmation)...

Confirmation of interest, yes.
I REALLY need to start getting it together, NOW!!!
My sister has a vacation cabin SOMEWHERE in S.W. North Carolina [I'll mail her tonight, to find out where. (FORGET IT !) ], and my fathers side of the family all live off Clear Creek Rd., just south of Adairsville (GA.), off of 41.
I need to see what day I'll visit with them.
I'll probably leave Orlando Wed. morning, stay somewhere in GA., off of 19, Wed. night. Thurs. will continue to the cabin for Thurs. afternoon/night, and show up Fri. morning.
Depending on the ride plans, I'll visit family in Adairsville (about 2 hrs. from Dahlonega) on Fri., Sat., or Sun., and stay Sun. night SOMEWHERE in GA., before returning home on Mon. night/Tues. afternoon.
I'm taking both weeks off, so the trip will be relaxed, off the beaten path, and plans are subj. to change to accommodate the ride schedule.
Really need to know what motels some will be staying at, and what the plans are for rides. (hours/day)
New clutch springs, clutch cable, oil & filter change, AND a spare coil on hand.
So again, can we get the ride itinerary out there, along with motel choices. (the camping info. has been listed, thanks Paul)

Yeah, Me too!

Turns out my sisters cabin is in Hayesville, NC., about 55 miles from Dahlonega, and about 66 miles from the cabin to Deals Gap. So my trip just expanded a bit, like from Tues. morn., 5/15, to Tues. night, 5/22.

Not to mention that Junior may join me on the Suzuki. (This expands my costs exponentially! )

Raj is one of the owners of the Days Inn in Dahlonega.
The hazing doesn't actually begin until you meet Yota and Charlie.

WOW! Great Caesar's Ghost!

This sucks!

Just discovered that the average low temp's for the third week of May in all three locations are low to mid 50's!!!

Low to mid 50's!?!?, What's THAT all about!?!?

I thought this was STILL in the South!?!?

I mean, I'm JUST startin' to ride regularly cause the temp's hit 80 by noon here.

They don't even rent gear for those temp's around here!

And HEAVEN FORBID if it is BELOW average that weekend! And WHAT will it feel like when the wind chill is factored in???, or rain!?!?

Oh no, no no, this ISN'T good.

We need one here, from the swamp, across the Seven Mile Bridge, to Hemingway's house, at sea level, with lows in the 70's.

This is SURE to go down as one of the HARDEST things I've EVER had to endure.
