Definitely!!! I have opted to remove the cup caddy from the handlebars and ride wearing a 2 liter hydration pack.

I'll be heading out from Des Moines, IA in the early a.m on the 5th bound to meet up with the rest of Missouri crew in Independence, IA for the final leg to Rally Central. I will not have internet access from the 4th on, but you can reach me via my cell: 816-651-5042

Ok guys, the final cost per person is $75. Those of you who paid me $90 at the beginning will be getting some money back. I will send it back to you guys through paypal. Hacksaw and arstaren, i'll give you yours at the rally.

I'm not picky. If it works better to pay out at the rally, I'd be ok with that too.

+ 1 on Rudy's Drive in. I have always loved that place. In fact my father-in-law worked there back in the early 50's.

New tires, fresh oil and filter, cables lubed. I am getting antsy, time to ride!. We will be coming out across hwy 60 to the ferry boat across the WI river and then thru various winding, hilly means get to westby.
And we are in for the Sparta deal. Sounds fun.

If anyone is up for a ride into La Crosse on Thursday evening I would suggest we go to Rudy's Drive In for a burger and a root beer. They were supposed have a Bike Night in Sparta but is got cancelled because of the holiday and the heat but suggested that we come anyways and have our own bike night. Anyone interested let me know and can take a short ride into an authentic 50's Drive-In with Roller Skating Carhops.

This is the Sparta deal. Might have to get me the Monster Burger at Rudy's... (Triple)

La Crosse it is the original Rudy's and I think it is a better location. And both locations are about the same distance from Westby.

How about a dumb question. Who is sportin helmets and windshields?

I am seriously thinking about no windshield because of the heat, but I have only used it once anyways.

Helmet wise, I have only used it once as well. Yea, I'm dumb.

I rode without a helmet and windshield for the first twenty years, and the occasional helmet and windshield for the next 12. In my opinion, a windshield is better on a blistering hot day. It keeps the hot air from blastin you, but still allows some air. As far as helmets, I have worn a half shell for a few years now. Really can't stand a full face.

+1 I'll be sportin' my new shield from Clearview (17 inch roadster screen), and wearing a half helmet.....never could get used to a full face one. Don't think I'll be wearing my protective jacket in the heat of the day (but it'll be in my bags).

I rarely use my windshield anymore since I swapped to a full face helmet

I put my windshield on for the trip, it's just nicer for a long highway ride, plus riding around out in the country I usually nail a few big bugs. I'm going with the half helmet for the trip, too hot for 3/4 or full.

TENTATIVE ROOM/CONDO ARRANGEMENTS

OK, so I set up some room arrangements for the lodge. I hope everyone finds it reasonable. It is by no means set in stone, so if anyone has any issues please let me know.
My #1 focus was the couples, getting them the most privacy as possible. Secondly I tried to group folks together who either already know each other pretty well, or at least are riding in together. Note that I did not put anyone in the caboose, but if someone wants to stay in there, you're welcome to. There is a double bed and 2 twin beds, more like bunks, how the railroad workers used to sleep, so you'll need a sleeping bag or something if you want to stay there. I tried to make it cool for everyone, so it hope this works out. Again, if anyone has any issues, please let me know by PM or call/text me on my cell.
So here goes;

Condo #1 first floor

2 Queen Bedrooms
Mike57 +1
mikemm03

2 queen sofa sleepers
Steve_sixmil
Mystery Guest

Condo # 2 second floor

2 Queen Bedrooms
Mag10 +1
KaiserSoze

2 queen beds (1 murphy, 1 by fireplace)
FastEddy
Stacka

Condo # 3

1 Double sofa bed
Hacksaw

1 bedroom w/ 3 twin beds
Buffal0
Bigtexas
Calkins

1 bedroom w/ 3 twin beds
Roadworthy
Dunnspeed
arstaren

Grandparents suite

bigJack & Diane

Hope this works for everyone.

I'll be sporting a windshield / helmet. My protective jacket will be packed in the bags. I picked up a protective shirt that is very breathable. I'll be trying that out.

Scott,
Give my spot to the Mystery Guest and whomever else needs a spot. I have to cancel my trip.
The house AC unit took a dump, needs a $500 part and the wifes jeep needs AC work. This 90+ degree heat in the Midwest is ruining everything.
You all enjoy the WI roads, hope to make it next year.

I bought a cooling vest yesterday to wear under my mesh jacket... I tried this combo on in my yard yesterday just to get an idea of how it felt in the heat. It felt pretty darn good. Good thing I have no neighbors with a line of sight to my yard or they would have thought I was crazy.

(Sorry to hear the news, Steve.)

Truly a bummer, Steve. We feel for ya. Reminds me of what happened last year when I was in DC chaperoning a bunch of kids. Took $300 with me for trinkets and a good time, but the second day I was there, the wife called to tell me her starter went out. Guess how much it was. Brought back all my trip money and a growley stumoch.

Hey Scott. Any water attractions where we're going? I'm usually not a big water person, but this might be one time where I'm not gonna care about my fat belly.

I just talked to Karl. He made it to Des Moines this morning. But, his speedometer drive took a dump on him. I will be meeting him in the morning as we head toward Indy, and meet up with the others.

He asked if I had one, which I do not. I think the drive on the wheel broke, because it spun and pulled his cable.

Karl said go ahead and bring the cable. He is going to tear into it after it cools down tonight. He thinks if the drive is ok, all he will need is a cable and a wire tie. Karl was going to try to call you too.

Yeah, not sure of a water park or anything other than the river. Figures the one year we opt for something other than a hotel with a pool, it's gonna be hot as hell.

Steve- sorry to hear you can't make it. hopefully next year you'll be back in the mix. I figure one of the guys in the twin beds will jump in your spot.
