Ohhhh....can't wait to see the Rally Tee designs. Sign me up fer 2.

OH! All interested parties, I've got my itinerary all set out: Will be leaving my hometown on 7/4/12. I just couldn't do the 4 lane slab (I35) thing (too boring a ride...if ya know what I mean), so have opted to take US65 N (mostly 2 lane) into Des Moines. I'll overnight @ the Travlodge. Will head out 7/5/12 to Westby WI, via Iowa City (more 2 lane) .

If any of the mems from the Des Moines area would like to convoy into Westby PM me with your contact info to work out the logistics.

Edited to correct dates: Thanks Scot...darn, I hates them typos! Thank God I have spellcheck at work!

Hey Buff, I think you're going to get there about 3 months early! Not to mention the whole time travel thing, I know the black ones are fast and all, but not that fast!

Yep, well Scott I didn't wanna wait til the last minute to get my act together for the ride up to Westby. It's only 63 days to until my vacation starts anyhoo, & it pays to plan ahead!

Now where did I put that pesky flux capacitor?

Lol, just busting your chops. You said you were leaving 4/4/12 instead of 7/4/12.
If I were out that way I'd ride in with ya, but I'll be coming from the other direction.

I didn't notice my dates were wrong...Thanx for the heads-up. No sweat on the ride up....I fairly certain some of the mems in the Des Moines area will PM or chime in as the date gets closer. Looking forward to drinkin a beer or 2, 3,4,.... with ya @ rally central!

So you're cruising out on Wednesday? That's cool. So how many hours will that be going up for you? Just curious. Should be a great ride.
The quickest route on google maps shows about 8.5 hours from St. Louis. I'm going to just slab it and roll out of STL around 6am or so. I fully intend on speeding and plan to get there sooner than the expected time.

Chris, From the KC metro (I am just a bit east of there) the ride up US65 to Des Moines will run about 3 hrs....not including pit stops & such & I ain't gonna be in any hurry for sure. Thursday the route that Larry has laid out will take us about 7+ hours & it's all 2 lane.

In total 10 hrs on the road just to get there for me. Glad I'm gonna overnight in Des Moines & hoping to get an early start Thursday as well. But that depends on Larry....I'm thinkin a 6 or 7 a.m. start sounds okay.

If I took the shortest route on Google it would run just over 8 hrs on the road (KC to Westby) I will probably be running the slab all the home Sunday the 8th.

ladisney is in Des Moines, and has a pretty killer two laner planned out. It takes highway 65 north to me in Iowa Falls, then angles over to the LaCrosse area.

Well guys, I visited with Mag10 last weekend, and we came up with a couple killer rides. One is relatively short, but with lots of twisties, the other is longer, but an easier pace, with sweepers and scenic views of the river. I'll get a couple maps posted here shortly.

I have also been in conversations with Eddy about t-shirts, and it looks like it's a go. We designed a new logo, and a new name for the rally going forward. More details on that to come. I'll probably start a new thread for the shirts.

Sounds like you may have picked routes I was thinking of coming up with....... There is no shortage of twisties in the rally area. Lots of nice views as well!!

Fairly early sounds good. I'm still asking around about the best fireworks locally. The route is mainly on the smaller roads. I'm aiming to stay away from the heavily travelled roads as much as reasonably possible and go through the hilly (and hopefully fairly twisty) parts of NE Iowa and SE Minnesota.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

Just got the temp replacement (until the PS412's arrive) shock today & it's on the bike (Fast Eddy ROCKS!), and went for a "test" ride to Gallatin, MO this evening...all is well with Black Beauty again!. Larry, I'm with ya avoiding the "heavily" traveled roads into Westby....the ride up to Gallatin,MO is the initial leg for my route north & it's a pretty nice ride & not generally a heavy traffic route. When I jump to US65N I'll get into the mix for sure tho.

Ahhh... Gallatin... I lived in Trenton for five years. Actually, I will be back there the 24th and 25th. My mom still owns the house at Leisure Lake, and I will be spending the night. I am taking 65 down to Urbana to visit my pops for a couple days. Then, head up to Moline, IL to see my lady friend. Should be near a 1k mile weekend!!

Have not been on here in a while. Just realized you guys are planning this event only 25 min from my house. I will easily be able to make it up there thursday and friday. Will be nice to see some more brit bikes in the area. How do I go about getting a shirt?

Cool! It's always nice to have some local input on things, where to eat, where to avoid, cool side trips, etc. As far as the shirts go, FastEddy is handling it, he should be posting something soon about ordering info.

Should be a good time. I guess if Rich and I are both gonna be there then there will be a shortage of chips again? Sorry, my jokes are 3 years old since I've missed out on the last couple rallies

Yeah, you know, the next year we went again, and there was an abundance of chips. The only difference was you and Rich weren't there. Coincidence? I think not! No riverboat cruise planned for this year, so it's strictly a BYOC event.

Sucks that I won't be able to make it. Happens to be the weekend that my company is moving into a new Factory we just built. All hands on deck for the entire weekend. Beautiful area up in LaCrosse, should be an awesome event. I'm sure Scott will knock it out of the park. If there is a bright side, at least I won't have to listen to Chris gloat about the Cardinals

Maybe the chips are gonna be safe, but anything food wise is up for grabs. I always eat way bigger than I look. Word of warning... Watch out who sits next to me and don't stand in front of me in a buffet! (Someday that's gonna catch up to me!)

Ok, here's what we have planned for the friday ride. If anyone local knows of any cool stops or good restaurants/bars along the route, please chime in.

Friday ride – Very interesting ride all Wisconsin, lots of hills and twisties and the northern Dragon. 169 miles, but plan on at least 5 hours with stops.
I'm thinking kickstands up at around 10 am. We can do a group breakfast somewhere in Westby around 9, or if people want to go out on their own that's cool too.
So leaving from the lodge, Ride north through Cashton, west on 33, 162, etc, until we reach Grandad Bluff. From Grandad Bluff, through Coon Valley, Chaseburg, and Stoddard, on the way to Genoa, where we can stop for lunch.
Possible lunch stops;

Big River Inn Restaurant
200 Beaver Street, Genoa, WI(608) 689-3200
http://www.bigriverinnwi.com/index.html

Londoners Bistro
500 Main St, Genoa, WI (608) 689-3949
http://www.mississippiriveradventures.com/londonersbistro.htm

I think the Londoner's place looks cool.

We will probably need to stop for gas in one of those towns, and we could stop if there is anything cool to stop for along the way. From Genoa, ride east through Viroqua and Lafarge (we can add stops in here if needed) on 82 until it connects with 33, west to Wildcat Mountain state park for another stop. From Wildcat Mtn towards Ontario, south on 131 to County rd P back to Westby.

Here's a link to the google map. (I tried to embed the map here but I don't know how). If anyone can download this onto a gps you will be my hero.

http://goo.gl/maps/82wn

Also note that there are plenty of easy routes back to Westby from anywhere along the ride, if anyone feels like they want to cut it short.

Nice route. I usually don't go east of USH 61 much so that will be new ground for me. I did check with the local Highway dept and they may have some road constuction on CTH II in La Crosse county and I would suggest avoiding that road if the road construction is started. Otherwise I am getting pumped to meet a bunch of fellow brit bike lovers and go for a ride.

CTH II, is that county hwy 2? or II? The whole lettering system up there confuses me sometimes. If that road is under construction, maybe we can stay on 33 going out towards Grandad Bluff.

Just so you know here is WI County Highways all have letters and State highways all have numbers. I can check on the construction closer to that day but staying on 33 and skipping II would be a good thing if they are working on that road. II is a pretty good hill with very sharp curves that would suck when covered with gravel.

I'm just throwing this out there, but with a kitchen and gas and charcoal grills at our disposal, I see no reason why we can't throw down on some BBQ for dinner back at the lodge... I figure there should be a grocery store somewhere in the area with steaks and stuff.

Westby has all the ammenities that we need. Grocery Store, gas, plenty of places to eat.... Central Express is good for breakfast. The Old Town Supper Club on the south end of town is also a good place to eat. We should easily be able to play things by ear.
