I just picked up a 02 America and brake light not working. I have spent the day trying to troubleshoot problem.
1) Checked bulb it is ok.
2) I checked fuse, it is good
3) I pulled connector apart,mashed brake with test light no power when brake pressed at ether front or rear brake.
4) Jumped rear brake like switch light still not working.

After finding wiring diagram saw that there is a turn signal relay where is it located?
Dose any one have any suggestions on what to check next?

Make sure the wiring loom hasn't pulled free under the rear guard and is rubbing on the rear tyre. There is a heap of spare cable under the seat. My rear lights stopped working 1 hour after I picked my bike up because of this.

Also, have a look at the bar inside the light tab, the little brass connector inside there, many times when people replace the bulbs they end up pushing that little sucker up out of place and it won't make any connections, just a thought.

OK some update I have replaced relay with new one to eliminate it as prblem. Have unplugged tail light at batt. area. Found a wire diagram, when I press brake peddle or press lever I have no power, fuse is good because I have turn signals. I also have a tail light, just no brake light, I M puzzled.

I forget... is the OEM taillight a dual filament? If t is you may have one bad filament but the bulb may look ok.

It's a dual filament lamp. Might just check and see if you have two solder joints at the base of the lamp to insure you have the correct one. When you say you don't have power at the socket when the brake (front or rear) is that by meter or by bulb?

I have taken the rear light out of the loop by unpluging the light. I M testing for power at the plug. I have no power at the plug. no power at the brake switches ether. but I do have power at running lights.

You've replaced fuse #7 with a known good fuse and the horn works?

Heres the electrical schematic. It'll help you trace the electrical flow.

Looks like fuse 7 and fuse 10 play a role in the brake light.

Start tracing your power flow back from the light through fuses, brake switches etc... at some point you'll go from no power to power and that will lead you to the issue.

You talked about replacing the turn signal relay. Are you sure you used the correct type? Technically the wrong one should blow fuses but you never know.

DUDE! You can't just say fixed and not tell us what you found and did to fix it.

I Thank every one for there feedback. I found that some how the wires at the lower brake switch got pinched and cut. Reconected wires brake light works.
