I was thinking about riding with both a small Canadian and American flags on Friar's memorial ride. Can someone pick up a small Stars and Strips and bring it up with them to the Raid. I imagine finding them at a novelty shop or what we call Dollar Stores up here. Something maybe around 18" long or thereabouts. I have not been able to find one here.

If anyone wants to join me on the idea I can get Canadian flags easily here for a couple o' bucks per.

The weather forecast is promising. Some chance of rain between Wednesday and Friday but only isolated showers and even then small amounts or rain, if any. I've been doing my sun dance as best I can for you guys... I think it's paying off!

Chillin in my motel in kamloops excited about my ride into Nelson tomorrow. I live in surrey BC and was heading into work (west on the #1) and heading east (toward Nelson) at 630am I saw a nice little group of triumphs already on their way. It was all I could think about today at work. Sleep tight little triumphs, sleep tight and I will see you tomorrow!!!!

As you might surmise Gordie made it just fine and it was great seeing him again. The question now becomes, did Gordie make it out of Nelson?

I believe most folks are either home or on the road home now. In many ways it was great and fitting Nelson ralley. On Saturday we had a Friar John memorial ride, Nelson to Kaslo over the top to New Denver and back, that Keith had a large part organizing. A little gathering at the lake pull out at the "over the top" part and a sharing of memories. I can't really remember how many "spirited rides" Friar and I had over those roads.

At the end of the Saturday's banquet Liane Langlois of Edmonton and the 2013 event organizer/facilitator/trouble-shooter did a very fitting and appropriate remembrance of the Friar. The words a collaboration of Gene Fenske and herself. Thanks Gene, Thanks Liane. Everyone knew the Friar. I won't mention all the real names-screen names there. Besides in a short time the more technologically literate members will be posting pics.

The event is more than one man, but FJ has certainly been a huge part of it for a long time. Till next year people

No worries Gordie, I have a partial bottle of FJ Crown in the cupboard. Being the resident choir boy I never touch the stuff. I'll bring it along to the 2013 Nelson rally.

Here are some pics from the RAT RAID...

This years Best Cruiser winner - Nancy (Martys woman)

A group of unruly Triumph RATS at the bar on the last night...
Left to right: John (bottom left), Brent (BCarnage), Rene Louis (top left), Keith (Keith - sticking his head around Brent), John (Freedom - in hat he won), Karen (Kford), Nancy (kneeling in front of Karen), me, Marty (Marty - taking a knee), Brads lady and Brad, Jason (IceMech) and Gordie (Celt).

Any REAL biker ALWAYS stops for ice cream...
Left to right: Gordie, Keith, Jason, Brent, John, Karen, me, John.

We road from Nelson to Kaslo the over to New Denver. The stop was at Fish Lake between Kalso and New Denver. Check it out on a map and you'll see why this was Friars favorite ride. A RIP sticker was placed facing the rest stop/Fish Lake where John always stopped.

Of course I ride a Triumph!

Karen and I with our riding friends Rick and Toni.

WOW! what an awesome weekend! this being my first ever bike rally of any sorts i must say i had a great time. Just a quick question about these rallys....is it common for someone to win 3 prizes? chain lube, kootney rat raid 2012 jacket, and new triumph CE armoured riding jacket? Many fun new roads and people (some more twisty than others) lol the roads i mean. I am already excited about attending next year. One thing i learned about this weekend is that ignorance is bliss. after seeing acouple of our members rides in person i now realise what "i'm missing". I may be developing a problem....a potentially expensive problem. oh yeah after seeing a large amount of Thruxtons i realise i may want one of those as well as my America. once again great to meet all of you and see ya next time!

Jason, fargin good to meet you too! Just today I was over John's road with the usual stop at Fish Lake. Then, heading to Retallack where a couple of mining related buildings still stand at the side of the road, I stopped to contemplate the notion of buying a cabin up there at the top of John's road. Maybe throw a party each year for all the twisty freaks who travel that road by the scores each and every year. Maybe step things up a notch and party with the bears out there in the middle of nowhere. Fire up the generator and rock out in the wilderness. Stranger things have happened.
