I'm trying to think of some snappy comeback, but I just don't have one. It will be good to see everyone at the event!

True. But you know he would be calling you some sort of pansie for not getting on with it and enjoying the riding so of all people's souls, don't give his a reason to come back and haunt us
I believe he favored the ride up to New Denver or was it Kaslo... Either way how about we have a John Bedard memorial ride one day?

Definitely a memorial ride is in order. You're right, Z... John loved that Kaslo/New Denver ride more than any other so for sure let's do it. I would love to see all the ba.com members who attend be part of that ride. I was also thinking it would be great to reserve a parking spot for John back at the New Grande with his name on it, or possibly a picture too. What does everyone think?

Keith i think thats a great idea, both of them, count me in.
Also on another note but a thought, John booked a room at the hound i am sure, likley on his Credit card to hold it, i would hate to see him get charged for the rooms, and given the circumstances his familly having to deal with explainging everything etc, do you think someone will be calling them to cancell it?

Freedom shares that Room with John each year..no cancellation.... but Freedom can do whatever is in His power..Not going to be the same.. memorial ride would be great but lets not diminish the atmosphere of the Raid.A patch would be nice to have done by then..Proceeds to tie up loose ends, etc.
life is good..I am retired..sold my America in 2008,bought a Rocket and sold that in 3/2013 and now own a new Triumph Bonneville T-100

That is very true. I posted Johns passing on the Nelson RAT raid FB page only cause it was such a special event for John. I would like to do the Memorial ride and have no issues with whoever wants to go with us but I don't want to ask for it to be a part of the agenda unless the organizers offer.
I wonder if Perceval can get those patches and stickers done before we head up. Ill PM him and see if he's serious about doing it.

I had to think about this and after talking to Karen I think its safe to say that we both think that might be taking it a step too far. Though John was known there it was not his event.
I think we would be doing him justice with the ride in his memory and patches/stickers if available.
Thoughts?

John Houston and I rode up to Nakusp with Friar, for lunch at a place he liked last year. That also might be good. I remember him saying, "If the cops pull me over pretend you don't know me. No sense in us all getting tickets."

Ya Brent, in 2009 Rene, John & I were poking along with Rene in the lead. A Mountie pulled us over with Rene motioning us to continue. Not wanting to be viewed as the ugly americans we pulled over. We got tickets from the officer and a reprimand from Rene. A double whammy

I just read this post by Paul on the FB Nelson Rat Raid page... thought I would share with you... Paul England On behalf of all the people who attend the Raid every year I would like to offer our sorrow at Johns passing and condolences to his family . We will all miss him and many a glass will be raised in his memory at Nelson. Several people have come forward to do something in his memory and we will have something appropriate in place to celebrate his many contributions to our Rally, which was made better by his participation. Also if anyone knows his family please pass on the condolences of his many fellow Triumph riders from both sides of the border Paul EnglandIve passed along the info to Gene so he can share with Johns family and I can't wait to see what is planned in memory of John. This is so awesome no matter how big or small. The thought and gesture have me teared up again... out of joy this time.

Yeah, Z... maybe that reserved parking spot is over the top, but in my heart and mind nothing is over the top for Friar. That's where I'll keep it... in my heart and yes, it was not his event so in consideration of the event as a whole I agree with you and Karen. It was just an idea.

I've got two questions. 1. Is a passport required to fly to Canada from the US? 2. Is there a H/D dealer for rentals in or around Nelson?
I'll be checking air fares Monday.

Yes to the passport, I'm not aware of any fine point exemptions. Z has one, so (nah I won't go there

Make no mistake Keith... if this was a BA.com event there would be a permanent spot every year for the Friar.

Nelson is small, very small. You may have better luck flying into Vancouver BC and renting there. Heck, fly into Seattle, rent here and ride up with us.

Yeah, Googled that. Also, I've been Googling my arse off, and the closest bike rental, of Easyriders or H/D, seem to be a couple hundred miles from Nelson. Sure was hoping for one much closer to Nelson, or Spokane.

Wanted something closer. My wife would be coming, and with her bad back, I wouldn't want to go more than 100-150 miles at any one time. Although, on a much bigger bike than my POS, she may be able to go further She wants to go so bad, she wouldn't say anything about the pain. So I need to make the right decision for both of us.

Thanks! Lone Wolf works for me! Stupid Passport! We're gonna look into it Monday, but from what I've read on-line, AFTER the application, with ALL supporting doc's, it's 4-6 weeks, unless you pay $60 (x 2) for 3 week turn a round. My wife has one, last used 40+ years ago in Okinawa! I think that WON'T qualify for a "renewal".

Sure hope you can make it, my friend. Spokane is definitely the best place to get to when you come up here. It's about 3 hours by road from Spokane to Nelson. If you are stuck for a bike I have two... my America and my XL 350. We could work something out. Also, the organizers would need advance notice of your attendance so you're included in the banquet and you get a t-shirt.

The Passport issue will be the deciding issue, as I have a few "issues" from my "misspent Youth" Speaking of those filters, I just got three of the Jim Beam filters, which sell immediately. So when I went to the factory (Ghetto Shed Products) this morning to finish painting them, ONE had the inlet & outlet modified slightly. I asked junior "What the hell was up with this", and his reply was something along the lines of "That's my new Bubbler" A freaking $100 + Bubbler !!!??? If it didn't show ingenuity like his dads, I'da kicked his ass! (But NOW I'm thinkin' he MAY be on to sompin')

Lone Wolf & Spokane work for me, but I'll Google Cranbrook as well. I need to see where Buckley, WA. is. I have an uncle that lives there. It would be GREAT to see him as well. He had a H/D last I knew, and would probably be interested in coming as well. He's in his mid 70's, widowed, and ONE HELL OF A CONVERSATIONALIST!!! I've just endured a four hour deposition this morning, then ran like a chicken with his head cut off to complete an eight hour days worth of work (government work, so I WAS able to get it done in five ), but am too tired to google these things tonight. Probably will catch up on everything tomorrow. Thanks, ME.

Also, I've got my application and ALL supporting documents ready to submit for my Passport. I've just got to get the pics tomorrow. BUT, all I can find for the wife is a Certificate of Birth Registration, which only certifies that a birth certificate has been filed. IF they accept that, COOL! If not, well, ... (I've been informed that NO, I won't be going alone.) Life's SOOO... UNFAIR !!!

I am so hoping you can make it. Heading for Cranbrook would only complicate things I think. It's not much of an airport and there would be connecting flights to consider from oh, maybe Spokane or some other place on one side of the border or another. Once in Cranbrook you are about the same distance away as Spokane so really, what would be the point.
Keep working at this... and don't forget about registration so you can be a part of the banquet and get door prizes and a t-shirt!
