So what have we learned in 2,065 years
"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." – Cicero 54BC

Funny how the leasons of the past are so easily forgotten.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

Yeah guys, but look on the bright side here...At least after those same 2,065 years, Man has learned to live in peace and wars are a thing of the past.

We must have learned all that. I've heard more than one of our contemporary leaders say pretty much the same thing.

The reason nothing ever changes is because noone is willing to discuss constructively the problems at hand..............its boring or it might be uncomfortable. if we could come together and constructively discuss the problems and the solutions we could form an idealogocal base by which to enact some changes, but we just leave that to same idiots who been putting the screws to us for generations. Its been a family business here for as long as we have been a country to be the screw installers. We have royal families just as much older countries do. But.....H3ll go vote for em again and b1tch cause nothing changes. Its Christmas put a ribbon on the dog and have an eggnog. It'll last till it ends.

Ya know Chad, what with all these deep thoughts of yours on many of the different threads lately(of which btw, I don't disagree with you on many of 'em) I'm thinkin' ALL your Christmas shopping must be done, huh?! (...oh and btw...there is no such word as "noone"...that IS unless you were referring to Peter Noone, the lead singer of the old Herman's Hermits pop group...ya see, it is acceptable to write "nobody" or "no one", but never "noone"...but don't worry, you certainly are not the only one who I've lately seen doin' this on the internet)

Well of course, why do you think it's not locked? It's doing a pretty good job of dancing around politics. It's actually pretty entertaining to watch people try and frame their political views in such a vague manner as to not violate the AUP. I appreciate the effort.

I think its more useful and meaningful to be able to have a discussion with out being able to use labels and ad hominems.

Hey, I'm all for discussions on how to make our political sytem, education, better. I'm a big observer on what's going on in our country. There is plenty that makes me angry. But this "ain't" the place to discuss it. This is a mc fan site( and I don't care that this is the lounge. It is a lounge on a MC FAN SITE)I come here to let my hair down, have fun and talk about bikes and things related to bikes, especially Triumphs. There are plenty of places I can chat and rant about the state of the country.

That's a good point. Leaving out the "keywords" that trigger flame ups and the inevitable lockage seems to help. Now if we could only get the rest of the world to realize this we might actually be able to get something done.

All I can say is, don't like it, not interested, don't read it. The lounge, to me, is a place to just chat about what ever comes to mind or another wants to share. We are not all interested in the same thing and as long as it stays civil I don't see the harm. Lots of stuff discussed here doesn't interest me, like the musicians unite thread. Not MC related, doesn't interest me but doesn't bother me either. I just use that as an example and I am not trying to make anyone mad or upset anyone but I like the diversity and chance to get to know my fellow members more than just our common interest in the bikes weather I agree with their views or not. A little heated but friendly discussion is fun sometimes.

That's the thing Ian, it's been proven here time and time again that any discussion about either politics or religion on this site gets out of hand at some point, people get butt-hurt, and threads get locked. It's not the topic that's uninteresting as much as that it's a dead horse being beaten again and again and again. What other outcome could have possibly followed the initial post in this thread?

Yeah, they get butt hurt. I just keep wondering when people started having the absolute right not to have their feelings hurt. What if somebody says "Just bobbed the bike what do you think?" Well, they asked. Than somebody says "I don't like the color." Right away they read into that comment that they really said "Its just flat butt ugly, I wouldn't put my dog on it." Would that be an AUP issue? Don't answer that, its rhetorical. Grown bikers getting butt hurt. The government should make a law against it.

I agree... lately the Lounge has (pretty much) been the only place with any activity. I rather miss the m/c (specifically Triumph) related threads/posts we arrived here for in the first place.

I'm not angry Chad. I'm just ranting about one of my pet peeves about the site. Members can talk about whatever they want to. I just seem to enjoy it more when there is humor and bikes involved. I really appreciate your Christmas wish and hope you and everyone here has a wonderful Christmas also! (I knew the Christmas spirit would smack me upside the head sooner or later)

+1 I love the cycle talk and seeing what people are doing with their bikes but how many times can one explain how to set the float or mixture screws or the "new" pick up gap. I will never understand how people can't let another just have their opinion and listen to each other express their thoughts without fighting about it when it comes to politics.I used to do it with my friends all the time and still do with some but it is over a long distance now so not as often. We just call each other names in jest and laugh about it.Usually we then laugh about the gov't in general because it doesn't do any good to cry about it.

I think we've already pretty much covered everything. What else is left to talk about? Probably why I like the Member's Rides forum and Custom Corner forum best. That's where the newest motorcycle stuff seems to happen.
