So, I bought some rental property a couple years ago and there were, literally, tons of ceramic tile in the garage. I retiled several floors, etc., but I still had a bunch of it. Now, I live in a log cabin. The lady who built it loved claw foot tubs. I hate the damn things. They are useless. To make matters worse, in the master bath they ran the plumbing up through the floor in middle of the room. So...I took out the claw foot tub and I built an enormous walk in shower. It's 6 ft by 3 ft. For showers, that's big. Rain shower. Rough tiles that give the feeling of a rock wall. There's even a window in the shower (I love windows in showers). Now, when I bought the house I had the two fireplaces converted to gas (I've paid my debt to society with wood fires). One is in the bedroom. It has a remote. So...in the morning my alarm goes off, I hit the fire remote, I walk into my enormous rainfall shower, then I walk out and towel off in front of a big 'ol fire. Now, I'm a simple guy. But for me, this is the height of decadence.

I'll just be happy when I tear out my old tub in the next week or two and put in my 36" wide shower, 6" wider than what I have now. Thinking about a second showerhead on the opposite end of the original one. That's good enough for me...

I should add that I probably have less than $200 invested.

Now Chet, I'm gonna assume that you meant the dimensions of that handy dandy new shower you built are 6 feet in LENGTH and 3 feet in WIDTH, right?! Okay Chet, now tell us...How the heck are we to be the judge about the "HEIGHT of YOUR decadence" when you never gave us that last friggin' dimension, dude???!!! Btw, this brings me to somethin' I could never quite understand. Why is it "Lengt h", "Widt h" and "Height"??? Heck, for continuity's sake ALONE, wouldn't ya THINK there'd be another freakin' "h" at the end of the word "Height"??? (...well, I guess I should AT LEAST be thankful there's none of those friggin' superfluous U's in ANY of those words, huh?!!) (..oh yeah, I almost forgot...that fireplace with the remote DOES sound pretty decadent just by itself, alright!)

$200 for a cabin with 2 fireplaces and a 6' long shower?! Holy crap dude... can you imagine how decadent you could be with $400?
Btw... sounds like you've got a great setup there!

Sounds very cool. A rainfall shower sounds like fun. Ahhhhh..., life in the USA! Now tell us that the cabin overlooks a beach owned by Halle Berry and make it complete!

The deck overlooks a valley that Hallie Berry very possibly could be in. It's hard to say because there are a bunch of trees.
My son, he's 24 year old mechanical engineer, grew up helping me build stuff. Aside from being an engineer he's very talented in all things related to building. He got his first engineering job near Martinsville, Virginia. He found a 3 bedroom, 2 bath brick rancher in a really pretty spot for...$28,000!!! It was a mess and needed a lot of work but, 11 months later, he's done. Included in the work, we enclosed his carport and built a 12 X 24 foot rec room/shop with slate floors, 10 foot ceilings, paddle fan, an oak bar that, on the other side, doubles as a workbench. It's really nice. The house is paid for. He's in better shape financially than me.

It was a great story until you told us about the "toweling" off part. I am now jabbing my eyes out.....

Oh, right. I meant to say, "Ruth stands in front of the fire toweling off."
That being said, you should all assume that I look like Brad Pitt in 'Fight Club' or 'Troy'. There's no reason to assume anything else.

I don't have all that much invested in my cabin, money-wise. My boys and I finished off the downstairs, which nearly doubled its size. My oldest built a big 'ol deck with a 4 bay carport underneath for Christmas 2007. I had no place to put cars or motorcycles and I was in the middle of a series of operations to reconstruct both my shoulders following a truly spectacular mountain biking accident. I just paid for the lumber. He's a beast. He knew I needed it. Great guy and my best friend.
Other stuff, like the shower, I do as time and money permits. I need a new furnace right now.
For what I have invested you could probably get a two week time share on a parking space in NYC.

Well Mike, there certainly are some real deals on houses to be had down in Phoenix right now.
(...though I hate to tell ya that there's not ONE Tim Horton's to be found anywhere in The Valley of the Sun...BUT the Phoenix Coyotes ARE in first place at the moment!)
