Yep, I knew about the Arkansas Rally, but couldn't get free from work that Thursday/Friday to make the ride down this year. I'll be checking for that one for sure. I was just wonderin if they were any others in the planning stages for 2012 & hadn't thought to do a search on the forums for one. I'll keep checking this winter. Hope to share the road with some of the BA site members in 2012.

Been thinking about trying out LaCrosse this year, been checking out some wonderful roads around that area. I don't know, maybe something different.

LaCrosse, Indiana? That's fine with me I guess and actually, it's about a half hour closer than Galena for me. I would miss the covered parking and the nice gathering place on the deck though but like I said, cool either way, Scott.

I could be wrong, but I think Scott is referring to La Crosse, WI.

Yes, WI. Google Mindoro Cut, or little deals gap of the midwest, wildcat mountain. From what I've read, that area seems to be the closest thing in comparison to the great motorcycle roads our friends in the southeast enjoy. However it's definitely not set in stone, I've just been doing some research on different rides/destinations. Every time I search for routes that area keeps coming up. I just want to keep it fresh, and avoid doing the same thing every year. We'll see. Always open to ideas/suggestions.

Scott, that looks pretty fun, hopefully I can swing it again this year.
We need to get you northerners down to an Arkansas Rally!

Ouch. 8 and a half hours of slab. Oh well, I'll do it as long as I have some road company with me so I'll stay tuned and see what happens. I'm not too opinionated about where we go.

Dave- it's definitely on my to-do list.
Chris - didn't realize it was that far, it's 5 for me. Good thing you'll be cruising in comfort on a big R3T by then right?

Yep, that's a pretty long haul, & maybe a two day ride (for me at least) just getting there. But having folks to share the ride with would definately make the trip more enjoyable and worthwhile. I'll keep looking for updates on plans just the same.

Aw, come on. We can do it in one day! It will suck but... Not the time on the bike just all that straight slab. I forget where you're out of??? If this trip's too long there's always the Arkansas rally which is a much shorter jaunt.

Scott, You are correct about the roads in the LaCross, Wi. area. I took a ride up to Wildcat Mountain in Oct. Unbelivable colors that time of year. It makes a good day trip out of Dubuque if you guys still want to stay at Timmermans. Good roads and plenty of good road houses just in case anyone gets thirsty.

when I map it out ...looks like 240 miles round trip...just from Dubuque, IA to La Crosse, WI and that's just going there and back..does not include riding when we get to La Crosse area .... so by the time where done it will be well over 300 mile day ..sorry way more then i want to do on a rally day .. have to say it will just be easier to stay much closer to La Crosse, WI Ed

Wisconsin's Route 33? Heck take your pick among many routes in Wisconsin's Western Uplands. Alternatively any tangent state has the roads. Here's some routes in Minnesota's Corn Belt Plains.

Chris, I did the google maps thing from Independence, MO (my town) to La Crosse and it was like a 7 hr route (Straight up I35 to I90 East into La Crosse). Yep, the bike time isn't what would get to me either....just the endless concrete ribbon to get there. I'd be pretty tukered out after that ride for sure. I don't know if any other BA members local to the KC area are even interested in going. So it looks like I'd be road trippin alone at this point.

Google maps has me running US61 and US67 for 8.5 hours. I was looking to see if it was conceivable to hook up somewhere in upper MO or lower Iowa but, I don't know, might make the trips longer. What do you think?

Scott, The ride I took to Wildcat Mt. was just under 300 miles round trip. With the stops, it was probably a nine hour day. I did not think about the guys riding all day the day before just to get here. It might not be any fun for those guys. I'm sure someone will come up with another ride that would be more enjoyable.

Hey Chris....I was looking at the routes to where we might meet up and Waterloo, IA appears to be the best spot to meet. My route from Independence would add about an hour of road overall. From the St. Louis area a possible route would be for you to head west on I70 to 218 N to I380 North trough Cedar Rapids and then to Waterloo (approx. 5.5 hrs on the road for you so's we could to meet up. My travel time to Waterloo would be about 5 hrs). Then we head North on US63 to I90 E from Rochester, WI to La Crosse. (another 3 hrs. of slab). Looks like your road time would be about the same. Wadda ya think???

depending on where the starting point/meeting place is, there are some awesome roads in that area, on both sides of the river. I would be happy to help put together a route (or 2). heck we could ride in 4 states in one afternoon.

Angela will probably be going to China next summer during that time, so I might just leave town and come on up there again. I'll keep you posted as details develop.

Until set in stone... I'm reserving July 6, 7, and 8th. Has this thread become the "Official" 2012 Midwest Rally Thread? If so, I'll make it a favorite so I get email updates.

Not the "official" thread yet, i'll start a new one for that. I'm trying to think outside the box as far as lodging, a lot will depend on how many people are attending. I'm looking at the possibility of renting a big house or something that we could all stay in, therefore saving quite a bit over a hotel. The best deal I have so far from a hotel is $73 a night. But I have to see how many people we're going to be, and how it'll work ot as far as couples and what not.
