So, just to comfort myself , I ask; IF the ONLY issue is a dead right cyl., which has died in the middle of a long ride home, worked again when restarted after a several hour rest, then worked fine for about a thirty mile ride a week later, but died again (right side only)on the way home, then wouldn't fire again when started a week later, or another week later, is ALWAYS the right side EVEN after switching to a spare coil, crossing the l.v. wires from side to side, along with switching plug wires side to side. The bike starts, runs fine (for a single cyl.), doesn't miss, no other issues, but again, is ALWAYS the right side cyl., regardless of which coil is being used, is there ANYTHING ELSE it could POSSIBLY be OTHER then the CDI? (I don't think so)

I thought I needed a new CDI for the Thruxton. It would start and idle fine, then as I rode the left cylinder would quit, did all the things you did. I would sometimes get a spark on the left plug. Turned out to be a stuck float in the left carb, it was flooding the left cylinder to the extreme. The stuck float was discovered by accident, I had left the petcock on over night, the next mourning I had gasoline running down the driveway from under my garage door. Gasoline was dripping from my exhaust. Yes I felt pretty stupid, hadn't ridden the bike all summer because of the cost of a CDI.

I'll give the one plug a look, but I used a timing light on the plug wire to verify it wasn't firing, while switching coils and coil wires, so there was no electricity flowing through the right side plug wire.
Thanks for the thought.

Thank God there is an alterative to the $650 stock unit! I DON'T WANT the Procom, BUT, I'm on an average (at BEST) budget here.

You might catch one available like this one from http://www.ebay.com/itm/Triumph-Speedmas...item2c5fa10a74. Looks like http://stores.ebay.com/PinWall-Cycle-Parts-Inc has about 6 of them available at the moment but they usually go fast. So do your research and see which OEM CDI will work with your bike, watch the "see it running" videos that accompany each item and for the cost of a new PROCOM unit that may or may not make you happy, you can get a salvage OEM CDI off of a running bike that if it doesn't fix your problem at least you should be able to turn it pretty quickly. Just a thought. Good luck with it. Mayber there is a member here who has a spare unit he will lend you for testing purposes. Guys? Can anyone help a brother out?
Its more fun to be ridin'! I'm still ridin

If you go for a Pinwall salvage unit (and I have a lot of miles on mine) be sure and get the right one for your bike; there are different ignitors for the 790 and the 865.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Herm Albright (1876 - 1944)

Have a look here: http://www.triumphtwinpower.com/triumph-twin-igniter-info.php for part numbers. If you have an 865, you can go for any 865 part number for an America, Speedmaster or Scrambler, they are the same unit with different part numbers.

Thanks guy's! I will make ONE MORE offer for the one that's been on ebay for a month now. I started offering him $80, then $100, then $125. Every time, he responds with a counter offer of $200. I'll go $150 tomorrow, But I won't go over $150 for any stock unit. I will go with the $240 Procom before I go over $150! I believe everyone with a basically stock 790 got good results with the Procom after a try or two, and they DO have a 1 year warranty.

Im having the EXACT same problem. Right cylinder will just drop without warning. It'll kick in and out at times but it's always the right cylinder. Much thanks to fast eddy for putting the cdi thought in my head. I replaced the right side coil and still nothing. Haven't replaced the cdi yet but most opinions here point to it. Hmph....guess I'll have to bite the bullet and replace it.
