Hey guys... I feel like I've kinda let you down here. But as I type I'm going over dozens of ideas I captured on my portable recorder in hopes of finding something suitable for a project. How's everyone else doing?

It's been like a ghost town around here lately...
I figured that, with the holidays coming, everyone was pretty busy with other things, last minute shopping ideas...

I've worked up some guitar parts over the last couple weeks for the Surf Rock thing. I'm waiting for an Apogee Duet interface for the iMac to arrive from Sweetwater Sound before i try to lay it down.

Yeah, sorry Jeff I didnt get around to listening to those tracks until this morning. I might have found a new bassist for my band..haha
Cool! And congrats! wishing the best of luck!

Anyway, the drums sound awesome to me, its pretty amazing how that mic captures in stereo like that. We need someone to play guitar on it now and we'll have something going here.
Thanks! by the way, my mic was to capture my doumbek, the drums track is courtesy of Toontrack Superior Drummer. I have converted my acoustic kit to an all electronic one (DIY style!), and Midi triggered to Superior Drummer. I don't like modules sounds so much, whether from Roland or Yamaha, but those VSTs are not so bad.

When you get a chance, post the plain drum track with no bass in WAV format and I'll load it to my machine and add some organ or something. Let me know if you'd like a plain bass track to mix with and I'll upload it.
Sure, I'll get the kit out again tomorrow and post that track on here.

What you have to rerecord it? You dont have just the drum track that you mixed with mine?

A bit off topic, but music related. I found out today that my 10 yr old (he is the older of the 2 boys, his brother is the 9yr old) spent the last two nights learning Silent Night on his strat for his classroom (5th grade) talent show today. I have not even heard him play it yet. I am proud of him for playing solo in front of his piers. Wish I could have seen it. I told him for mom to learn Greensleves. It is her favorite. Now im just waiting on Santa to deliver my goods I also am continuing upkeep on all the guitars, 2 down 3 more to go + the 2 Basses. (D@mn bass strings are expensive ) OK on that note, for a kid are teh .040's going to be a good bet? flat wind round wind or what? I really dont have a clue.

The cymbals are e-cymbals too, but the triggering is not constant... I'll have to put some more work into them so that I can play them reliably. I'm sure you could hear that in the recording.
I can give you the drums only in a separate file. The drums have their own tracks. They are split into 4 tracks: the kick, the snare, the hihats and the cymbals... each recorded on its own track.

yeah jeff just gimme a good mix of the drum tracks mixed together then and I'll be able to work with that. I can give you the plain bass track while I'm at it, this way we can do our own separate mixes.
Its been my intention from the start to have everyone do their own thing with whats recorded and offered up. This way no ones left out. We could have a this mix with these guys playing these parts, and another guys mix with his buddy playing harmonica...and so on.
Some day we'll get there

Keith,
before I put my drums away again, I was working on your song. I came up with something I liked, so I will need to make it consistant before I start recording the track.
It's coming....

(brokenfixed's Surf Rock Bass Line--added guitar):
After getting the new interface i had to upgrade the mac to Snow Leopard to use it. After getting that done & doing a hard and fast learning curve to using it with Garageband i finally took a stab at recording. This was my first run through and i didn't get everything i wanted to do in there, but i'm unleashing it anyway (even with a few flubs). It's in brokenfixed's folder "Surf Rock Bass with Guitar (C.J.).
I wanted it to continue, the ending came too quickly for me!

I didn't know this would be an .aiff file. New to me. Hopefully you guys can hear the thing on Windows. If you can't open it, i'll see if i can change it into a wav or mp3 file. I found this tutorial for listening to an .aiff on Windows Media Player: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000857.htm

If you click on the share menu, you can choose the way to save the file, aiff, wav, mp3, etc...

Thanks for the info, Jeff! I converted it in iTunes to mp3 (for a much less space eating file). <<If I had a dime for every time I've said that...!>> Keith: Also, it sometimes goes the other way: 'will this song ever end!?'

I like it! Nice Xmas present! Could you upload a file without the click track behind? I just gave a shot at mixing the tracks with my drums... I like it! This is a fun!

At first i just thought that working with the basic track would be my best bet, then try it again with your drum track. But, i decided to stop there and not try it again. Hearing it with the drum track, it's amazing how well it gelled together!
The click is with Tom's bass track, so he'd have to be the one to put a track without it.
I've uploaded some tracks for Tom's (brokenfixed) "Bobber", "On The Run", "Surf Rock Song", and for Keith's "BA Collab" as well. I guess everyone's still in Christmas hangover haitus, or maybe it's some other reason. Is the enthusiasm on the wane? I got in a bit late i know.

alright, I uploaded a plain bass line for surf rock to mix with. So have at it.
Churchkey.....friggin awesome dude, youre nailing the vibe on surf rock. Is that your final take? If so upload a wav file of just the guitar so I can mix with it. If you wanna collaborate a bit with it, I have some ideas for you. Its totally up to you.
On the run sounded cool too, it was totally different than I imagined it so I'm really pleased. If you think it kinda ends abruptly I'll can add some more bars, whatever works, I'm open to ideas.
The bobber track was loud and awesome as well. Its funny hearing that classic rock sound overtop of my riffs. Again, its a totally different twist and exactly why I was looking forward to doing this. If you want me to expand that into a full song let me know. It was just a riff to gain interest. Any ideas on the format?
Perceval: that mix sounded great for a raw mix. Any thoughts on drums for "on the run" or "bobber riff"? If its not your cup of tea I'll put drums to them or something. I kinda wanted to give you first dibs I guess since youre the percussion guy.
great stuff guys

just listened to churchkey's track with keiths synth....
I'm buying a freaking EBOW tomorrow!
CJ ever heard that bass track I did with Keith's synth? I was wondering how they'd sound together. Especially because the bass track tries to fill in those gaps in between each piece. I'm curious to see if we can make those parts work by filling them in a bit. I know Keith's mentioned those parts not jiving...I just wanna see if we can make those parts really cool using the power of jam!

Update to Keith's melody, added some drums: Here's a quick rendition of what we got now... it sounds a bit stuffy because I had to work with mp3 files, plus churchkey's and brokenfixed's files are combined with keith's original melody... I had to play with some filters... http://soundcloud.com/perceval-1/keith-1st-chorusWhat we would need here: - Keith, could you finish your melody, we only have the first chorus. - Churchkey and Brokenfixed, could you upload a wav file with your guitar / bass track only. Thanks!

Jeff, basically that melody repeats itself through the other verses. But MAN do I like what I hear! What I'd like to do is remove the original percussion track I included with my synth and keep your drumming, Jeff. It's so much more real, more alive than the canned track I used as a tempo track. I just love the way you roll around on those toms. It IS an interesting chord progression... I knew it had potential!

Keith, I am still thinking that what I have in my head will still work with that. OK SANTA BROUGHT ME THE NEW AUDIO TOYS. Now I am having to figure it all out. For the record. the Behringer C1 mic is pretty sensitive and sounds good to me. Percival, I just listened to your stuff on soundcloud, I think its coming along great! Sorry to have been so absent,,,, Christmas was good and this week has been fun. I met a new neighbor who plays and can sing,,,, Gonna try and hook up with him tomorrow and see if we are compatible as musicians.

perceval I just listened to the latin syth drums, they sound good to me. I we get that clean track from keith without the drum machine, I could add some shakers and hand drums to fill it in.
Did you ever upload the plain drum track to surf rock? Ive been meaning to assemble that on my machine and add some more to it possibly.

Tom, the wav file is there, I just renamed it so it is more obvious.
Look for surf rock- drums only.wav in my tracks folder under your name.
