Hey that's nice! But it had only like two chords.... Less is better!

There's nothing wrong with Behringer equipment. It's cheap, yet decent quality and get's the job done. It is however, pretty much disposable because no one really fixes the stuff, and spares are hard to find. But for the price you can't go wrong.
Scott, I have one of those mixers you're looking at and it is a great little item. Even has phantom power!!
Is this what you used for your mix of "Let's Go!"? And do you also use the Behringer Mic?

I am waiting for one of those Blue Mic Yeti ... looks fun and interesting to play with. Seen a lot of reviews and I can't wait to give it a shot. It small and convenient enough.
This is an impressive product. Seems to have a lot of flexibility and you don't need anything else but your PC/MAC and an open USB port. And through the built-in headphone jack it could be patched into any other system as well too.

No! Two is the minimum..... Well, how many different ways can you play one chord and compile it into a melodic expression? Okay, I want to hear your one chord song but I'm still working on the starter tune. Pink Floyd did a lot of stuff that basically is just one chord didn't they? I don't remember, I was really quite stoned at the time.......

Almost all my originals are 2 to 3 chords on the verse and 2 on the chorus. stock major and minors. I figure the REALLY good people can embellish the #add9th flats to them LOLOL

The long wait is over.... got my mic today.
I just hooked it up and tested it very shortly, but even with that short time, I must say that I am quite impressed. This is a lot of mic performance for the price.
Had a short run with my hand drums, and nothing so far had been able to capture them quite like this. And I didn't have time to play with positioning so much yet.
If you're looking for a cheap mic just to play with, the Blue Yeti is really nice. They have an USB version (the one I got) for the ease of just plugging it into a computer (in my case my MacBookPro) and record, or the "Pro" version with XLR input.
Now, I tried it with an iPad too, I had high hopes for that.... but the quality is not showing there. I believe that the iPad audio drivers are not as nice as my laptop.
So, for the cheap price of about $100, you get to choose the settings of either a stereo mic, or three other patterns: cardioid, omnidirectional, and bidirectional.
Check it out!
I'll hopefully have something to show for soon...

I just jammed your latin notes on my loopstation. Started with the bass line and looped a couple guitars in there all live.

Tom,
I had less than 1/2 hour to play today... gotta dress up the house and school for Xmas!
Anyway, I started a little something drum-wise for your surf-rock track. It's just a heads up of what I feel, need to work on it more, especially the rolls and get my timing right...

I'm still here, guys. I've been playing music everyday but am sort of on a path of discovery lately... that of harmonics and solfeggio frequencies. Other than my daily practice, I've totally veered off into this whole new area of study (for me). Apparently solfeggio tones were used long ago but not any longer, as they were banned for use in any sort of music by the Pope some 800 years ago. Yeah, trippy stuff but a subject I've become extremely interested in. I'm considering retuning everything to accommodate these 'lost' frequencies because the more I look into this, the more I realize their beneficial properties in our lives.
What can I say... I am a child of the '60s. I simply can't not look into this. It's part of my DNA!

awesome Jeff, I'll have to check that out tonight and see what you got. Thanks for the interest either way.
Keith, anything banned by the Pope has gotta be awesome. I'll have to read up on this myself.

I pecked around the folders in dropbox and found some stuff I really liked. All you guys are uploading some pretty cool stuff. But (yeah, there is a but) it's getting hard to keep track of it all in terms of who did what for which project, where to find it, and how it all pertains to the existence of the Universe. And Tom, what are all those .auf files in your folder about? My dropbox app just said I was updated with 67 new files!

Tom, thanks for that! I'll try to extend it a bit, but got no time to set up the kit for the next 2 or 3 days... Keith, although I had already started with something for you, you said you wanted to rework that file we started with, so I was just keeping busy! On another note, I had a short window of time today where I got my small doumbek (and played it like a djembe! go figure!) just to do a quick test with the new mic. Placement was not optimal, will need to test a bit, but this is raw sound recorded with the USB Blue Yeti. The rimshots are not loud enough, and the bass is booming a bit, but you can hear the ring of the drum nevertheless. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwmXQCP6fBY

Keith I'm told theyre audacity files...Not mine possibly Preacher's.
I went through and tidied up a bit in my file. My theory on organization is like this:
3 types of tracks/files...
-Riff files -Rough Mixes -Separate Mixing tracks (wav)
User's file has misc. riff files to attract attention.
When another member records something to go with that riff, a subfolder is made. That folder contains the rough mixes and eventually a subfolder for mixing tracks.
Later on when things are finalized that folder will contain each individual instrument track in WAV file format to be mixed down together for a whole song in the future.
Basically I made a "brokenfixed" file inside Keith's to keep my contributions separate from the rest because "at the time" it seemed like he was gonna have 5 different guitar & bass tracks to pick from.
Keith that "latin jam" file was just something I played and tossed in since I guess we're not collaborating on that one anymore. It can be erased.
TO ALL: The more info you use in your title, the better it will be to identify later. Date/working title/BPM info..etc.

Thanks Keith, with the fact that I had to do this next to the staircase, which is probably the best acoustically sounding place in my house right now, this went well enough.
This mic was a pleasant surprise, I almost didn't want to wait for it and go with an AudioTechnica ATH-2020... I am really glad I waited for this little gem. It is turning out to be all that I read about it on the net.
Yep, with better placement and little tweaking, I am sure I can achieve some nice recordings.

If anyone here is looking for a Audio/MIDI Interface and Controller (something to plug your stuff into for recording on the computer) I have a Tascam FW-1082 for sale. Why? Because I have 2 of them... the one for sale is a backup unit. It was used for maybe 2 months while my other one was on the road. It's a GREAT board! Connects to your computer via firewire. It takes the place of your computer's sound card and is therefore a playback device as well. The features are too many to mention here but you can read about it in the link below. I will however mention one very cool feature. The controls are motorized so if you run DAW capable software, the screen controls physically operate the board's controls and vise versa. With taxes I paid well over $800. I'll let it go for $450 + shipping. I'm about to list it so not sure how long I'll have it. Here's a listing of it for sale. Here's a bunch of reviews.

Tom, I pulled the Audacity project file out of the Dropbox folder on my PC and reorganized the stuff I'm working on in your folder so, everybody, the next time your dropbox updates it should lose all the extra files.
Sorry if I screwed something up in the process guys... you know, amateurs
Keith, I'm still working on something based on your starter track so thats not dead as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks, Hubert. Admittedly I'm still confused about what files pertain to what and exactly what direction we're taking to where, but I'm looking through wine coloured glasses just now so...
Thanks one and all for keeping this project alive and active. I'm still a believer in what we're doing here.

Well lets take an inventory and see where we are and talk about where we want to be...
-brokenfixed file: - bobber guitar (riff) - no takers yet - on the run rhythm guitar (song) - no takers yet - surf rock bassline (song) - Preacher & perceval collaborating
-Keith file: - Latin melody (riff) - Latin synth (song) - brokenfixed collaborating (bassline & loop jam for fun) - Lets go (song) - nothing to add
-Mike B file: - Track 1 & 2 (songs) - nothing to add
-Preacher file: - Metal riff mp3 (riff) - Metal riff wav (riff) - brokenfixed collaborating (adding riffs to brokenfixed file) - Rhythm mix - (riff) - no takers yet
As it stands right now, Preacher and me have been just going back and forth ourselves because no one else is really doing much. Except for Jeff (perceval) who's just added some drums to my surf rock jam.
So as of right now the 2 "hot" items are the original Latin synth track and the surf rock song. Preacher added some guitar which I havent heard yet, and Jeffs got drums for half of it.

I finally got the 12 string cleaned up and re-strung. Now just gotta get some time to myself. I am waiting also to see if I get my stuff for christmass. (I have the week between christmas and new years off, hope to make some head way then!) I may use the RP and run it direct to the sound card for now though.

Alright!
Had time to air out the drum kit this weekend (my weekend is Sunday and Monday) and came up with the rest of the surf rock. It's inside perceval_tracks in the brokenfixed folder. There's still some work to be done, but it's a start.
I wanted to add Preacher's guitar, but the file is gone from the DropBox folder.
Keith, I got something for you too. It's coming. I'm trying different setups for the doumbek on your track. Maybe tonight or tomorrow. Don't despair!
It's been a rainy weekend... can't you tell!? ha ha!

awesome Jeff, cant wait to hear it. Probably wont get to it tonight because I'm trying out another bassist...haha I was definately pleased with your taste direction of the last file. When Ive played drums to it in the past its been similar in style. Cant beat the ride "ping" on that sound.
I think Preacher took that file down because there was some syncing issues with our bass and drum tracks.

Oh yeah if anyones interested... Theres a public folder on your personal dropbox account that you can drop files into and share publicly with a link. It works pretty good for posting craigslist adds looking for band members. Like so... http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/muc/2742595732.htmlIt'd probably be handy for sharing on this site when we get some mixes together.

Changed Tom's surf rock track a bit...
when I was listening with my headphones, the ride was coming out but didn't have much on it. Then I listened through my speakers, and I couldn't hear the ride... so I boosted the ride cymbal a bit... tell me if it's too much.

Keith,
before I took down my drum kit for the week, I had a go at it with your track.
I had been playing my doumbek on your track, and was planning to record today, but I had an idea, and my kit was still up!
So, while I was fooling around, I hit record and came up with this. It's just an idea. It's just some kind of beat on the toms, hitting toms as I went along...
The file (Keith melody) is inside perceval_tracks in your own folder.

Thanks Keith,
I will work on it more later, like I said, it's a first draft.
I need to find the sequence to make the toms sound more melodic.
I can't wait until I can take the kit out again and work on it... will be fun! I don't have a nice music room like you, but one day! I already have the idea how I will have my own music room... hopefully in a year or so.
I'll work on the doumbek part during the week.
