Scott, I think it matters with reverb/delay and distortion. You want the distortion to echo, you dont want the echo distort. The distortion needs a clean uninterupted signal in order to sound "full" I guess. and you echo/delay that.

I have my wah setup backwards (before the multi-effects.)

My multi is at the end of the chain just because I have stereo outputs that go to their own fender twins for right and left. Now I'm getting a loop station and have some fiddling to do. Ive been told theres a difference in the chain I guess you can switch it up to find whats best.

I would think if your multi has amp modeling or compression you'd want it at the end of the chain to enhance the various pedals youre sending through. I guess theres nothing wrong with having an extra distortion after the multi.
