Okay Keith, I just loaded your wavs into audacity and ran through them a couple times to try and get the feel. Wow! that's more than the 3 chords I'm used to! Okay, Okay, I know those chords, not a problem. I think I want to lay down an acoustic rhythm track then go from there. Definitly has that Latino thing going there but very relaxed. I'm curious to hear what the others will come up with for it. But you've given me a challenge. Thats a good thing. Thought about any lyrics yet?

I just uploaded my files a second a go, and I'm grabbing yours now Keith.
I got one rhythm guitar track and a bassline for another idea. Both tracks have the metronome mixed in with it, if anyone prefers to not have the click in there let me know. I find it helps to play to the click with every track you lay down, but thats me...haha.
By the way, if anyone needs a click track made up just let me know what BPM and length youre looking for and I'll upload it for you.

I didn't check media player but audacity handles them without issue.

That's pretty interesting! I want to take that melody track out... it's only there so others would know what's going through this not-so-pretty head o' mine. Even the percussion track can be ditched (although it's pretty cool imho) for something more organic from one of us.

It's not that daunting. There's just a couple bar chords required, otherwise it's a natural and easy to follow progression using the first 3 frets (unless you go for the capo version which is a bit more 'friendly').

If you can get the internet you should be able to access http://www.dropbox.com and login there without downloading the dropbox software. Once logged in you can access the share and use it from the web interface to upload/download files. If your workstation allows you to use a usb drive you should be able to save to it. All depends on how tight your IT guy has it all locked down.
I'm doin the family/thanksgiving thing. I'll get on our project as soon as I can.

Hey Keith, I'm working on an acoustic thing that I think will blend well with your song and really open it up. I'm against a bit of learning curve but the music is inside and its gotta come out!!!
Beamer its there Dude, just let it flow!!! On chord at at time, one note at a time, one lick at a time and you are there!!!

Yeah Preacher I'd like to hear what you do for Keiths song and go from there. I was noodling on some light distorted guitar which I thought was in the same vein as Keiths melody sample.
I was thinking of adding some bass to your fingerstyle piece preacher.

Dropbox is very easy to use as I found out. Once you install it on your computer it does the grunt work for you. Ummmm, did you get Hubert's invite via email? If so, once you have a dropbox account getting into the folder Hubert set up is easy via the email invitation.

I haven't been able to check the thread today till now. Doing the Thanksgiving thing with family from out of town and all. Probly by this weekend I'll have something I can post to dropbox just as a sample of what I'm working on for an acoustic thing, but it's pushing my envelope a bit so whatever I submit for now will be a rough cut.
As far as the "TimeIS" instrumental is concerned, feel free to experiment as much as you like. I need to go back and work out the ending. I've never been satisfied with how I stopped it because it is really an incomplete work. So any ideas will surely help me to create a finished work of that one.
Also, I have another one I wrote back in 91, and have sung it publicly many times. Last year about this time I revistied it and changed the music on it. So, I guess no song is truly finished when you can find a better way to do it. I'll let you know when I put it up in dropbox.
I'm fixin' to crash for the night. Got a big day tomorrow. I'll check back as often as I can. Also, Tom I listened to your tracks and will definitely be doing something with them too.

Hey Hubert, Chris (DunnSpeed) is a busy man these days, and we've been in touch behind the scenes but do send him an invite. I'm speaking on behalf of Chris knowing he's not had time to follow this thread, but he let me know he'd like to be a part of a collab. His email address is in his profile.

Okay, I think I've sent invitation to everyone who has shown interest to date on this thread except for Locopony (will lay down some bass when other work is done) and b717doc (has injured finger).
If you guys are interested PM or email me. The more the merrier and if you can't play right now you may have other input that would be beneficial.
There have been 10 participants of this thread. 5 have already joined the dropbox share. Three have been sent invitaions and am waiting for their responses.

I probably know the barr ghords and didnt know the names for them. Like Preacher, I am out of town for the hollidays. I got a pretty good "groovy feeling from your bit, and really like the "On the run" and bass surf track! Heck I like them all. I have a song or two to put up for help making a Whole also but Ill wait and try to work on what is here. Im going to be working some 12 string stuff for your track. Thinking a lightly chorused track then maybe something else. (I just have to find some time! Gee I wish I had a studio unconnected to the house.)

ok got to listen to everything, hmm, i don't want to be a stick in the mud but i was not diggin the the initial stuff to much, preachers picin is nice, but preacher can you record it again only this time add another 2 couple bars to the initial progression before you leep into a bridge, not sure if thats your own tune or the chords keith gave us, was just a quick listen i will go back and see it again, but i can smell some very cool back road riding and life reflecting lyrics in that groove, just my opinion.

Thats an exercise I was working on back in 98 when it was recorded. Just uploaded as a sort of talent sample and its not relative to Keiths starter at all. I am a country/backwoods boy and the technique is self-discovered over several years. I never liked the end and need to revisit it at some point to get the overall flow to be consistent. If anyone wants to play around with it I'm open to any input and/or suggestions. I will eventually upload samples of other styles I do such as blues, rock, country, etc.
For the present, Keith's starter is my primary focus. I'm working on something, an acoutsitcal background rhythmic thing, that I will upload to Keith's folder when I've gotten to the point to share. It will be a rough cut for everyone to critique as I develop it. My goal is to have something "roughed in" ,so to speak, and uploaded over the weekend.
So far I've really gotten a kick out of this whole concept and project. I am looking forward to seeing what we come up with. Now that the family is all gone back to their homes after Thanksgiving, I'll get some rest and then spend some quality time with our project.

Let me clarify, i like the one keith handed in, i guess for me its more about the groove then the content, the content and mix is fine, i am more rock country rock orientated myself as well, its what i hear i guess.

I always thought it fun ny that we learn music backward. Music is a language. When you learned to talk it was because you had some thing to say. You listened to "pros", and copied their words but formed your own sentences. Then you learned to read. After that you studied language mechanics and theory. But we learn music by learning music theory and to read music having nothing to say. Most of the time then you never learn to express yourself.
Just a thought.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

TO ALL I think to save space on dropbox, we should have our demo versions in MP3 and when the files are refined we'll hand in the WAV files to the to be put into the final mix.
KEITH I just uploaded a mix of your tracks with a bass line. Its in MP3 for listening and when/if youre ready to do a mix down with it, I'll upload the bass track in WAV.
PREACHER Give Keith's file a glance, I made a "brokenfixed file" inside which has my bass line mixed with Keiths synth.
Let me know if you guys want anything changed. I'll be happy to work on any areas.
ALSO Take note to how I made a subfolder within Keith's file to keep my tracks. If we all stick to this method we wont have to fish through a bunch of files in order to find what we're looking for.
Any thoughts let me know

I had set a goal to have something for Keith's tune ready over this weekend. Unfortunateley I am unable to accomplish that goal. Sore fingers and bruised ego later, I can hear what I'm trying to do in my head but I just can't play whats in my head and get it to blend musically with Keith's tune at this time....
